Welcome

Welcome to the UNT College of Engineering, a young and vibrant college at a top tier (R1) university. The college is going through a phase of transformation, adding nine tenured/tenure-track and two non-tenure-track faculty members in 2019, with plans to continue expanding over the next 4-5 years.

As a leader in research and education, the college has established clusters of research excellence, including additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, and bioengineering. The college also works with the government on various state and national initiatives, including research in national defense, response analysis, and nuclear waste storage. Our partnership with the Air Force and Army Research Labs alone is backed by a $5 million annual research grant.

We have over 4,000 students at UNT Engineering, with about 250 enrolled in our doctoral programs. In total, the College of Engineering offers 4 doctoral, 7 master’s, and 10 bachelor’s degree programs in biomedical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical and energy engineering, construction engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology, which prepare our students to compete in today's global market. Additionally, the college has established multiple 3+2 education programs with universities in India and China.

As a partner with the local community, the college collaborates with more than 20 companies in the Dallas Metroplex through research and senior design capstone projects. Additionally, our UNT STEM@thePark initiative brings K-12 students from all over DFW together with UNT Engineering students and faculty to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Mission

The mission of the UNT College of Engineering is to capitalize on the opportunity for innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service. This will be achieved by a strategic alliance among all of the college's constituencies in the region, the state of Texas and the nation. The constituencies involved include foremost our undergraduate and graduate students as well as academic units and industry, particularly in North Texas, so as to foster economic development and promote an academically diverse environment.

Vision

The vision of the College of Engineering is to have the highest quality teaching and multidisciplinary research programs in North Texas and beyond: in strategically selected areas of engineering, engineering technology, and computer science that service the community, industry, and the profession; in an intellectually stimulating and diverse environment; and in support of industry and economic development.

Strategic plan

The strategic plan presents strategies, actions, and metrics to develop undergraduate and graduate programs, and enhance the research, reputation, and advancement of the UNT College of Engineering (CENG) from its current state in 2014 to its desired state in 2019 consistent with its university mission and 2014 Academic Affairs Strategic Plan.

Discovery Park

The North Texas region's largest research park with nearly 300 acres of space dedicated to the sciences, technology and engineering, UNT's Discovery Park is located 5 miles north of the UNT main campus in Denton, Texas. It includes a 590,000 square foot building, which is occupied by the College of Engineering, the College of Information and the Center for Information and Computer Security and supports interactive and multidisciplinary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) research, education and training that benefits students, faculty and the community, and expands economic development by developing industry-university partnerships.

UNT's Discovery Park features several state-of-the-art research labs such as the Materials Research Facility (MRF), a facility with high-powered microscopes for 3-D characterization and processing, and the Greenhouse Complex, a climate-controlled facility equipped with an expandable infrastructure to accommodate diverse growing conditions, including high ceilings to grow sugarcane and other tall plants.

Discovery Park is near Interstate 35 and is surrounded by a large parking area. It is also accessible by the campus shuttle bus.
