The Business School
Our Business School’s origins date back to 1834 and today it is a significant provider of education with over 90 staff and 2,700 students, 550 of whom are postgraduates. With our extensive knowledge and experience we will support you in developing the professional and personal skills you need to succeed in today’s dynamic and diverse world of business.
The School offers a number of taught and research programmes in business and management (including marketing and HRM); accounting and finance; computing; tourism, leisure and hospitality, and law and welcomes staff and students from over 40 countries.
Based at The Park in 24 acres of parkland, originally a Victorian botanical garden, the Business School blends the contemporary and the traditional. The buildings are a mix of historic villas, award-winning architecture and cutting edge computer labs.
Our students study for master’s awards either part time or full time. Marketing, purchasing and supply, accounting and personnel developments are all fields within which staff and students have excelled. This extensive network to the professions and the staff engagement in research and enterprise activities in the areas in which they teach ensures our teaching remains both focused and current. Over 50% of the University’s research has achieved international standard, a third of which has been rated as internationally excellent (RAE, 2008).
Our programmes recruit talented, creative individuals who wish to contribute to their own development and that of their organisations. Our links to international partners such as the international management programme of Hochschule Liectenstein and Fachhochschule Vorarlberg, University of Applied Sciences, Austria, University of Zagreb, Croatia and Kalaidos University, Zurich provide examples of our outward-looking, collaborative style.
Five halls of residence with en-suite rooms and broadband access are on-site with more halls situated just a ten minute walk away. University accommodation is also available in the town centre and the accommodation service has registered flats and houses available for rent.
On site we have a refectory as well as a shop, cash machine, launderette and medical centre. The Students’ Union (SU), with a bar, entertainments space and a job shop is also based at The Park. The SU represents the interests of students and operates more than fifty different societies, including national leagues sports teams.
