The four-semester master’s programme trains materials scientists in all aspects of the development, characterisation and application of new materials. The development of new materials can be regarded as a foundation on which to open up future-oriented applications. A prerequisite for this is an interdisciplinary knowledge of chemistry, physics and engineering and this is acquired in the master’s programme. An area of concentration can be chosen from the fields of “Metallic and Ceramic Materials”, “Semiconductor Process Engineering and Nanotechnology” and “Polymer Sciences and Plastics Engineering.”

Geotechnics and hydraulics deal with all of what are known as “difficult foundations”, i.e. with buildings and structures that are erected on special foundations. This includes, for example, tunnels, dams, river power stations, dikes or embankments. Among these count, for example, tunnels, reservoirs, hydro-electric power stations and dams. Students prepare themselves at Graz University of Technology for their future occcupational fields in a pratically oriented way. This is ensured by teaching staff with real-life experience and excellent infrastructure, such as Austria's biggest experimental hydraulics laboratory which makes use of models.
