About STUST Southern Taiwan University
STUST was founded in 1969. As of the 2007 academic year, we have a total of four colleges—College of Engineering, College of Business, College of Digital Design, College of Humanities and Social Sciences—25 departments, 11 graduate institutes (which offer 12 Master's programs and 3 doctoral programs), 4 teaching centers and 18 research centers.
STUST has over 800 faculty members, and we currently have approximately 18,000 students enrolled, of which over 170 are international students.
Our campus is located in the north-eastern suburb of Tainan City on an area of 16 hectares. To our west is Tainan City, and to our east is Yung-Kang City. Our campus is less than 4 km from Tainan’s Railway Station. Our school is truly located in an area with the beauty of the countryside and the convenience of metropolitan life.
“Willing to educate qualified students” and “benefiting society and adding to the development of our nation” are lyrics that appear in STUST's school song, and they were the purposes for establishing this university. The mission of STUST is to pursue academic excellence in both technological fields and in the humanities.
During the past 40 years, with the board of directors and tens of thousands of teachers and students working together, STUST has grown and developed. We are now undoubtedly the leader of private universities of technology in Taiwan.
We seek to achieve the following in order to become the top international private university of technology: Conduct research, be innovative, and pursue excellence,
•Integrate local resources and increase the opportunities for cooperation between industry and academia in order to develop regional advantages.
•Recruit outstanding teachers in order to develop major technology and secure national funding.
•Develop a diversified learning curriculum which equally emphasizes both the technological sciences and the humanities; thus, graduating students who are not only well trained and highly qualified but are also upright citizens.
•Create international partnerships with other universities with a focus on both going out into the world and in bringing the world to us.
•Construct and further enhance teaching, learning, and research facilities.
•Build a free and open education system that focuses on the whole person by promoting creativity, discipline, and cultural-literacy, as well as instill in our students a quest for knowledge that extends into life-long learning.
•Create a sound financial system while actively seeking external funding from the government and enterprises to help support the development of our university.
•Build a global alumni organization, so that with alumni support the university can continue to move forward.
