For 50 years, the SSTH Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality has been a guarantee for an excellent education as well as a synonym for Swiss hospitality. The highest teaching standards The quality of the education comes first with us. Our emphasis lies on current trends and developments in the continuous improvement of our study programs to adapt to the ever-changing market requirements. Applied theory „Tell me and I will forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand" This quote by Confucius underpins our teaching philosophy. Immersed in a hotel environment, students put theory into practice, preparing, cooking and serving colleagues and guests in our elegant dining room. As part of international project teams, students develop and implement solutions and professional business plans for real-life scenarios. We believe that only by undergoing this step-by-step process and experiencing all facets of the profession, will they gain sufficient knowledge and self-confidence to excel. "We care" We believe strongly that quality comes before quantity. Only a limited number of students are admitted each year to ensure learning remains challenging and student-focused. Small class sizes result in increased personal and academic performance and our compact size thus is our competitive advantage! Intercultural competence In a world of globalization, we pride ourselves on the fact that we embrace cultural individualities. In doing so, we remain unique and less susceptible to the comparison. We value cultural heritage and it has been inspirational in helping us sustain an environment of open-minded thinking. With around half of our student population being Swiss, the other half from over 40 nationalities, intercultural competence is an everyday reality at SSTH.
Our teaching approach
The Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality, with its three programs, offers quality education on different educational levels. All programs have a consistent approach to teaching: The SSTH pursues a training approach where the individual development of each student is the focus. Our curriculum is designed to develop the competencies needed – at the highest level of quality – to enable our graduates to become true experts and professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry. In order to keep up-to-date with new market demands, SSTH collaborates closely with various national and international industry representatives.
Since 1966, SSTH Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality has prepared young people for their professional career, with a particular focus on hospitality and gastronomy. All of our programs, at all educational levels, have a strong emphasis on practical experience. Thanks to their well-founded knowledge and practical work experience, our graduates are immediately employable and ready to accept responsibility. Throughout their SSTH education, our students are in demand as personnel in the hospitality industry. With their competent service know-how and their courteous and efficient manner, our students support local hotels at special events and banquets. And it is not without pride when we state that SSTH is the only hotel school which takes part each year serving participants of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Alongside external events, students also have the opportunity to be involved in banquets and other activities organized in the school hotel. These can be for up to 200 guests, or even over 2000, as is the case with our annual Food Festival. Taking place each spring, the Food Festival attracts visitors from far and wide to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere filled with music and shows and accompanied by the multi-cultural dishes prepared and served by our students. All of this practical experience is the foundation for the management skills that our graduates are well known for. As much as the first two semesters are filled with operational experience, the final two semesters set the students in supervisory and management tasks that are invaluable for understanding and learning the skills needed for their future careers. With only around 300 students, personal contact within our close-knit community of students, staff, and faculty is one of the main strengths of SSTH. We set a high value on our learning environment, which involves a combination of trust, respect, and professionalism.
