With its c. 4500 students the School of Business and Economics is one of Sweden’s largest business schools in terms of number of students. Yet despite its size the priority for the School is the close relationship between students and lecturers.

13 Bachelor programmes within business and economics form the basis of our education. We also offer 250 independent courses, six 1-year Master’s programmes and three 2-year Master’s programmes.

Our programmes and courses cover a range of different subjects, including tourism, entrepreneurship, marketing, retail, international business and logistics.

Researchers from the School of Business and Economics participate in a number of research groups including the Baltic Business Research Center (BBRC), the Center for Cultural Economy (CCE), the Centre for Labour Market Policy Research (CAFO), the Corporate Governance Research Group, the Research Centre for Labour Economics and Social Cognition (LESC). Some of our strongest research areas are entrepreneurship, international marketing, economics and tourism.

The School is primarily located in Kalmar and Växjö, but a few programmes also operate in Hultsfred and Ljungby. The school has an annual budget of 150 million kronor and c. 200 employees.

The School of Business and Economics values its international character and therefore fosters its international contacts. Every year we welcome c. 450 international students, while c. 300 of our own students spend time abroad studying at one of our 135 partner universities.

Creativity and individual development are given a great deal of emphasis at the School of Business and Economics. The educational environment is personal and builds on involvement, of both lecturers and students. Creative learning is always in focus. Exchanging opinions, bouncing around ideas, giving and receiving new impulses, all lead to stimulation and provide deeper knowledge.

Master in Business Process and Supply Chain Management

The one year master programme is focused on practical business process issues and prepares the students for a management position.

The two year master programme has a stronger focus on research and can be seen as preparatory for a position as a PhD candidate.

To develop businesses and societies by identifying, implementing and analyzing entrepreneurial projects together with practitioners.

The program syllabus includes courses which provides a theoretical depth in business development respectively different perspectives on entrepreneurship, specially emphasizing Scandinavian perspectives. The first semester a course in methodology provides knowledge and skills in interactive methods (action research) and in parallel a development project is identified and initiated together with a business, an organization or a local community. The project is implemented during the second semester. The project work provides skills to take on qualified project and process leadership roles and to be practically useful for the organization or the local society which has been chosen. Methodological skills are deepened during the last course during the second semester to enable a capacity to relate project work to development of theory. The second year consists of a study abroad semester and is completed by a master thesis during the last semester. Master in Innovation through Business, Engineering and Design – specialization Business

This two-year master programme is based on companies’ needs for employees with the ability to initiate, lead, and promote the creation of innovations. The language of tuition is English. Your future The programme trains students in project and innovation management, process and product development, business and system development, and social entrepreneurship. Students develop in-depth knowledge in business, but there is also interaction and sharing with the subject areas of design and technology. Students who complete the programme will be able to create sustainable solutions that take into account function and form as well as resource efficiency. Degree Master of Science in Business and Economics (120 credits) with specialization in Innovation through Business, Engineering and Design Main field of study: Business Administration. Fields of interest: Entrepreneurship, Business and Economics In the work with innovations students shall be able to balance the different parts of the process regarding functionality, shape, durability, and conditions of production. This requires knowledge in, or collaboration between, different disciplines where different methods, perspectives, and ways of working are being used. The programme is based on joint projects, often in collaboration with the industry or organisations, together with indepth studies in the student’s main field of study and a broadening towards other disciplines. Experiences from project work are discussed and put in relation to the student’s professional skills. Scientific methods used in the innovation process are studied in separate courses. At the growth oriented master program in International Business Strategy the purpose is to develop the student’s ability to analyze international strategic challenges faced by Multinational Corporations and Small and Medium sized enterprises.The program is designed for students seeking management positions working with international challenges. Throughout the program the students’ analytical capacity is stimulated. Focus is dedicated to an enhanced ability of understanding how firms can find competitive, dynamic and socially responsible solutions to international competitive challenges. LIVE – CASE COMPANIES plays a central role throughout the program. In teams the students are assigned a live case company which brings their international strategic challenges to class. The student teams work in group to solve these live strategic issues faced by highly competitive Swedish firms, e.g. Volvo Construction Equipment, Electrolux, Norden Pac Machinery.The first semester includes two courses with focus on how multinational companies from mature markets solve different strategic business challenges encountered in emerging country markets. The core revolves around how to balance economic and social aspects of international business strategy by creating economic, social and natural values for different stakeholders in emerging country markets and how to develop a dynamic local market organization for sustainable competitive advantage.The second semester includes another two courses pertaining to both small and medium sized companies as well as multinational companies. Scope of the programme The Programme's sustainability specialism also comprises the basis for work with the following perspectives in the Programme. Sustainable development is constantly highlighted in the analysis and planning of sustainability. Moreover, political and scientific aspects of sustainable development in all courses are problematized. Gender is used as a fundamental category in the study of tourism subject theory and gender theory is addressed in relation to theory of science and research methodology. Gender aspects of social, financial and environmental sustainability are included as an integrated part in all work which involves analysing or planning for tourism. Diversity is highlighted through classic social science concepts such as ethnicity, gender, class, culture, power relations etc. and as a part of fundamental tourism and tourist theory. During the Programme students will encounter a range of different perceptions and theories on both science and sustainability, including sustainable development. Internationalisation is given a practical basis as the Programme's language of instruction is English and through a deliberate effort to recruit international students with degrees from foreign institutes of higher education. In terms of the international perspective of the Programme, it is difficult to avoid an AngloSaxon touch of the tourism studies' literature and research. Deliberate efforts will be made within the courses to balance Eurocentric, western and colonial perspectives, something which also applies when sustainability and sustainable development are addressed.
