UNEFS

The National University of Physical Education and Sports (UNEFS) in Bucharest is the first institution of higher education for physical education teachers in Romania, it was the 10th institution of this kind in the world and 5th in Europe.

The courses began on 1 December 1922 in Bucharest and the founding act was given by the Law on Physical Education, promulgated on 15 June 1923 and published in the Official Gazette no. 59, dated 17 June 1923, under the name of NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION (INEF). The first headquarters of the new INEF was on Spirii Hill, where on September 13, 1848, the firefighters of Valter Maracineanu defended the provisional government against the Turks.

In June 2018, the UNEFS, which has used several names over the years, will complete 95 years of continuous work. Throughout this period here have been studied, completed and completed their training, big athletes, emulated coaches, managers and top business people from various fields, responsible people, heads of institutions both in our field and in those in which they operate, real ambassadors of today's Romania.

In the EU classification system, the UNEFS is defined as an "A" level education and research institute, which brings together all the basic areas of scientific knowledge related to man, education, health, culture and society. Study programs are in line with the Bologna Process, and the University has awarded Erasmus University Charte and has partnerships with universities in the European Space.

In the external evaluations of 2009 and 2017, the ARACIS Council granted the University a high degree of confidence rating.

Short history

The National University of Physical Education and Sport (UNEFS) in Bucharest was established by the Law on Physical Education, promulgated on 15 June 1923 and published in the Official Gazette no. 59, dated 17 June 1923, under the name of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEF). This title was changed during its existence, up to the present, attributed by the modifications approved by GD no. 749/2009 and published in the Official Gazette of Romania Part I of 12 October 2009.

  • 1950 - Institute of Physical Culture (ICF);

  • 1990 - Academy of Physical Education (AEF);
  • 1992 - National Academy of Physical Education (ANEF);
  • 1993 - National Academy of Physical Education and Sport (ANEFS).
  • 2009 - National University of Physical Education and Sport of Bucharest (UNEFS).

The first higher education institution for the training of physical education teachers in Romania began its courses on 1 December 1922 in Bucharest. It was the tenth institution of its kind in the world and 5th in Europe.

The activity started under the general leadership of Prof. Virgil Bădulescu, who received the support of the Royal Family, especially his Majesty King Ferdinand I, Dimitrie Gusti - the director of the House of People's Culture and Professor Vasile Pîrvan.

After being set up, INEF receives support from the Ministry of War (Spaces, Land and Money), the Ministry of Public Instruction, as well as some Bucharest faculties. Benefiting from a double subordination - of the Ministry of War and the Ministry of Public Instruction - the organization of the activity consisted of three sections:

  • University Section - 4-year studies that were teaching teachers;
  • Military Section - 1-year studies, training military specialists;
  • The Amateur Section - an "initiation center" open to people to practice.

Since the early years of existence, UNEFS has enjoyed an elite teaching staff. There have been professors of this institution famous personalities of Romanian science and culture, of which we mention: Prof. Dr. Francisc Rainer, Ph.D. T. Popa, Dr. Horia Dumitrescu, Professor N. Paulescu, Col. dr. C. Mihăilescu, PhD. D. Mezincescu, Professor Radu Olinescu, PhD, PhD, I. Lascar, PhD, Prof. PhD. C-tin Rădulescu-Motru, conf. Nae Ionescu, Gh. Zapan, Mircea Eliade, academician Octav Onicescu, scientist C. Kiriţescu.

The first graduation of Physics Education graduates graduated in 1926, and within it, a number of graduates would become reference personalities in the field; We mention here: C. Petre Lazar, CA Botez, Virgil Rosal, Iacob Mihaila, dr. Adrian Ionescu, dr. Traian Dumitrescu, dr. Florin Ulmeanu.

Since graduation, graduate promotions have continued uninterruptedly over the years. Here they have studied, formed and completed their training, big athletes, emers coaches, top managers and business people from various fields, responsible people, heads of institutions both in our field and in our who are active, real ambassadors of today's Romania.

At present, UNEFS in Bucharest, a public higher education institution with legal personality, operates on the basis of the Romanian Constitution of 1991, the Law on Education no. 84/1995 republished, of the Teaching Staff Statute no. 128/1997 and the Law no. 288/2004.

The activity is carried out according to UNEFS University Charter and its own regulations.
