Introduction

The Autonomous University of Nuevo León was officially born in 1933, although its origins are more remote since by this year there were already its schools of Jurisprudence, Medicine and Pharmacy, the Normal School and Civil College. It would be the representatives of these institutions who would submit to the consideration of the Honorable Congress of the State of Nuevo León the founding of a proper university, a fact that would finally occur on September 25, 1933, the date on which it began its activities with an enrollment of 1,864 students and 218 teachers.

The UANL, as it is also known by its acronym, was initially called the University of Nuevo León and was initially integrated into the faculties of Law and Social Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, and Pharmacy, as well as the School Normal, the Industrial School, the “Álvaro Obregón” Technical High School, the “Pablo Livas” Industrial School of Women's Labor and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
