At the heart of a metropolitan area that bears comparison with London and New York, Milan is for the whole world a synonym for art, industry, finance, design and fashion.

Artists of the calibre of Leonardo and Bramante worked in Milan, and four centuries later, Marinetti and Boccioni, founders of the Futurist Movement.

More recently, celebrated architects and designers, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Magistretti and Zanuso, and fashion designers like Armani and Versace, to name just a few, made Milan the world centre of fashion and design.

Art, science, industry and finance are the cultures at the root of this city pragmatism and of its creative and entrepreneurial spirit.

It is no coincidence that our school was born in Milan, drawing the inspiration for its teaching methods from the know-how, the thinking and the innovation so typical of Milan hinterland and its history.

Designing both goods and services for industry and with industry is the vocation of IED Milan, where design in all its ramifications is taught and practised.

For years, our students have been distinguishing themselves professionally, nourishing both the Made in Italy phenomenon and production in their countries of origin with their creativity and competence.

IED owes its establishment in 1966 to the intuition of its President Francesco Morelli. Through time, it has become a 100% Made in Italy international network of excellence, operating in the fields of training and research, in the disciplines of Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management.

The Italian and International business models require practitioners able to tackle the project not only from a technical and productive perspective but, above all, from a strategic and structural point of view. The Master in Design aims to prepare a new generation of designers ready to consider any design variable as a design problem, either through an analysis of the market and the needs of contemporary users, either imagining future scenarios, in favor of innovative solutions. Design has become an instrument capable of innovating the strategic objectives of companies. The traditional user-centered (UCD) approach modifies the concept from "designing for" to "designing with" people, adapting today's socio-economic and production system in evolution. [+]

Entry requirements: The Master in Design must include an Honours Degree in the fields of architecture, engineering, design, economics or humanities both for Italian and foreigner students. Methodology and structure: Based on cross-disciplinary working team, the Master applies creativity development of the best design agencies and think tanks, and stimulates the collective thinking, in order to share know-how and empower all related skills. The philosophy of the course, project and client based, offers to participants the opportunity to experiment and put into practice mindset and methodological processes (design thinking) by carrying out real projects, through a process based on team work and learning by doing. All projects are followed by Leader Advisors who are also practitioners, selected for their expertise on the different project topics. Conferences and seminars offer the opportunity for debates with specialists and agencies, distinguished personalities from a range of design disciplines as well as others including entrepreneurship, technology and economy. Fashion Design Management - 1st Level Master Degree

THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: This Masters programme seeks to recruit students with an Honours degree (three-year degree) in economics, design and fashion. Methodology and structure: The Master offers a path of experience, research and projects, combining a teaching methodology rich in theory and technique with the practical contribution of companies and practitioners that support the student at all stages of training and testing. The course covers three main key areas: the history of fashion and applied arts, fashion design and production, marketing and communication strategies, with an increasing level of complexity. Evaluation of results is based on their consistency with the objectives and on the social, cultural, ethical and economic impact towards stakeholders and the reference system, even on a long-term basis, in relation to contemporary trends of taste, style and market. Master in Animation Design

The spread of the Internet and digital media led to an increase of international production and distribution of content made in animation, in advertising, TV series and specials, feature films, but also - increasingly - short films and docu-fiction, which supports the growing demand in the field of games and animation productions cross and trans media (Internet, tablets, mobiles). At the end of the course, students can fit into one of these professional sectors, developed in independent production companies, research and design consultancies, service agencies, internal structures of broadcasters, specialized departments of publishing houses. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: The Master of Animation Design welcomes students with an Honours degree or diploma of I or II level or equivalent in Illustration, CG Animation of academic disciplines (painting, stage designing, Multimedia) or a diploma awarded by schools of specialization within comics and animation design. It also welcomes professionals, with at least two-year experience, interested in gaining a greater degree of specialization and update. Structure and methodology: The Master in Animation Design aims first of all to consolidate and upgrade skills in animation concept design with a focus on the topics, contents and styles that characterize the current production. It identifies some points that focuses on the evolution of the production work flow, presented by larger studies that are currently introducing new artistic solutions and techniques (Emerging Tools) for the production of series and feature films: 2D/3D integration, Cut-out (Puppet Animation), Frame-by-Frame Paperless Animation, Post-production, VFX. On these "nodes" students will find also the search for style, as a synthesis between the premises of the concept - expressive and aesthetic intents - and the choices of realization. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ITALIAN Target - The Master in Event Management is addressed to those who studied or are studying humanities, social sciences, economics or scientific disciplines; to graduates in Italian or foreign design schools in creative disciplines; to professionals with at least two years of experience in the field. Methodology and structure - In the first part, the Master provides a careful analysis of the events market by showing different case histories, and gives the basic cultural knowledge required to work in the field with passion and by being always updated. Such concepts are: event market, involved professionalisms, event types, history and reasons. Then, the Master focuses on all steps, processes, roles and time scheduling linked to an event realization: the creative process, the involved roles (from the art director to the project manager), the purchasing management, the event direction, the realization management, rules and security, and sponsorships. All problems will be explained through the analysis of case histories and events having reference to the following categories: fashion show, musical, concert, exhibition, sports event. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: Applicants, both Italians and foreigners, considering the Master in Fashion Communication and Styling will have a good first degree in Fashion, Communication and Marketing, as well as young professionals with at least two years of experience in the field. Structure and methodology: The strength of the Master in Fashion Communication and Styling is the combination of theoretical contents, analysis and study of the manufacturers of the most successful fashion, and practical activities, carried out in collaboration with companies and industry professional practitioners in an international context. The course aims to form a Fashion Communication Coordinator, a professional able to create and carry on a communication strategy for a fashion brand. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: The Master in Fashion Design welcomes students with an Honours Degree in Fashion Design and designers operating in the sector who feel the need to improve and/or update according to contemporary approaches of research and design. To gain access to the course it is essential to know well the techniques of Fashion Design (mastery of basic software: Photoshop and Illustrator, technical drawing, model and tailoring...). Structure and methodology: The Master in Fashion Marketing - From Strategy to Branding is structured in complementary units that examine the study of the different activities such as planning and marketing management: the main objective is the study and analysis of processes and methodologies for a valid testing of Marketing and Branding strategies in the fashion industry. The pathway of study provides students with traditional classroom lectures and thematic discussions for the acquisition of established theories and methods. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ITALIAN Target - As a matter of fact, the Master course is addressed to all those who studied communication, graphics and design and are looking for an advanced training to work in the field of graphics with ability and professionalism. Methedology and structure - The Master course - with its 10-month duration (7 months in classroom + 3 for stage/field project) and part time attendance - trains professionals in the communication field by developing managerial skills and a project culture rooted in the design history. But, most of all, it provides a method, a structure, and a process organized in a managerial way. The master consists of three steps. The first step is aimed at acquiring the knowledge concerning the communication project culture, at strengthening the technical-instrumental skills, and at developing the basic research through a frontal teaching methodology, guided project lab and individual study. The teaching is assigned to experts and professionals of the different disciplines. The second step of the pathway aims at managing the communication project in all its steps and takes place in collaboration with companies and/or external organizations. The Master in Interior Design aims to provide students with the methodological framework, strategic skills and necessary field experience to respond to new trends and future scenarios of Italian and international design. Three main areas of interior design are examined: spaces of sale, hospitality areas and Welfare. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: The Master in Interior Design is the right specialisation for graduates, Italians and foreigners, in Design, Architecture or related fields, who want to enrich their experience in design, but also for professionals with proven experience. Methodology and structure: Objective of the course is teaching first the design methodology that, by analyzing the codes of expression and conduct of the contemporary consumer, the identity of the customer, current trends in design and materials technology, allows students to capture an important wealth of experience. Students learn to create their own expressive language and to include in it, enhancing it, their creativity. They are taught to create project layout particularly accurate in the colors, materials, finishes, lighting effects, that can offer new sensory and emotional experiences.
