IAAD Istituto D'Arte Applicata e Design

According to IAAD, the design is the culture of the project, is a system capable of linking production with end users dealing with research and innovation to provide social value, cultural significance to goods and services: meaning, form, and function are the cornerstones of a conscious design.

IAAD invests in the quality of teaching and in the human and professional value of professors.

The EABHES accreditation, the partnership with the French Écoles de Condé, the new premises in the future Lavazza headquarters, collaboration with institutions, organizations, associations and companies for the development of cultural projects, research, educational and work experience, the evolution of the inner structure and the creation of an international scientific committee are the surest signs of a IAAD of the present and of the near future.

Historical outlines

1978
IAAD opened the first Italian degree in "Car body architecture" today called "Transportation design". Since 2008 the Department of "Transportation design" is named to the memory of Andrea Pininfarina.

2000
IAAD had been completely renovated in management. The new director, Laura Milani, reset and consolidated the institute, enabling collaborations with companies, associations, and institutions for the development of cultural projects, research, educational and work experience with the firm intention to ensure that the training is constantly updated and qualitatively high-level.

2005
EABHES (European Accreditation Board for Higher Education Schools) accreditation opened IAAD education to a European and international dimension. This recognition allowed IAAD to activate European Bachelor and Master Courses of Science in Design. The titles of Bachelor and Master are conformed to the European system of university credits ECTS - European Credits Transfer System.

2008
Turin was the first World Design Capital, IAAD turned 30 and celebrated with Italdesign Giugiaro, which in the same year was 40 years old. A project was born from this fortunate combination, carried out jointly by IAAD and Giugiaro and publicly donated to the city of Turin - a path of discovery of the contemporary Turin through the design of 35 public benches.

2009
IAAD and ISIA Firenze together - with the support of a large committee composed of public institutions of Turin and Piedmont, national associations of industry and craftsmanship, national and international partner companies- - officially present the first Italian 1st level Academic Diploma course in "Design of sustainable mobility and transportation means" (180 CFA credits). Classes began in October 2010.

2012
IAAD signs an important strategic partnership with the French group Écoles de Condé, with offices in Paris, Nice, Lyon, Nancy, and Bordeaux. The courses in Italy and France are open to students from both schools: thus a wide training offer consistent with the specificity of respective territories is available.

2013
IAAD three-year post-diploma courses are officially accredited by MIUR - Ministry of Education, University and Research as 1st level Academic Diplomas (180 CFA) with 5 possible specializations: Product Design, Interior Design, Textile and fashion design, Transportation design, Communication Design.

The certificate issued by IAAD conforms to AFAM-ISIA system and is recognized as a degree in Italian regulations - as well as being already recognized by EABHES - European Accreditation Board of Higher Education Schools in the European system (ECTS).

The academic year 2013-2014 will open in a new venue for IAAD, which will be settled in Aurora district, in the future Lavazza headquarters, with about 2,500 square meters available for educational activities, exhibitions, and conferences. The works of regeneration and restoration are carried out by the architect Cino Zucchi with Picco Architetti Studio of Turin.

Contemporary society moves its first steps towards "artificial intelligence". This expression may sound bombastic, but the essence of the phenomenon can be synthesized in a few words: many tiring activities that today weigh mainly on human intelligence are steadily being transferred to computers, which are finally able to read the semantic meaning of raw information, creating a vast network of benefits and profits.

Modern digital environments and the "artificial" intelligence that are developed in and from them are deeply changing jobs in every sector, at every level. Many new professions are being developed in this setting, and it's not a case that most of the EU funding being placed in 2014 and onwards is going towards a "digital agenda".... [-]
