Education at Sciences Po fosters dialogue between the major disciplines of the social sciences – economics, history, political science, law and sociology. It gives students the tools they need to understand the contemporary world.

Students also develop critical thinking and public speaking skills through pedagogical methods that favour group projects, oral presentations and the confrontation of ideas. By providing a multidisciplinary approach and a range of electives, such as artistic workshops, Sciences Po encourages students to adopt different perspectives.

7- Take part in group projects and realise your potential by engaging in campus life

Sciences Po’s educational approach emphasises personal responsibility, teamwork, public expression, citizenship and humanism. Students cultivate these qualities through group projects and the 200 associations that make life on campus so exciting.

8- Live in an exceptional environment

Sciences Po’s seven multicultural campuses are located in cities with a rich historical and architectural heritage – Dijon, Le Havre, Menton, Nancy, Paris, Poitiers and Reims. The campuses are home to a tight-knit multicultural student community and feature a vibrant intellectual and extra-curricular student life.

Master Governing the Large Metropolis

Campus Full time September 2017 France Paris

The Master's programme Governing the Large Metropolis aims to prepare graduates for work on public policy issues in a variety of large metropolises beyond Europe, in relation to different types of organizations and agencies. [+]

Master Governing the Large Metropolis Programme objectives The Master's programme Governing the Large Metropolis aims to prepare graduates for work on public policy issues in a variety of large metropolises beyond Europe, in relation to different types of organizations and agencies. The world cities and urban sprawl of both the global North and the global South face massive public policy and governance challenges. The scale and speed of urbanization raise a plethora of issues, which are all covered in the programme. These include: economic development, poverty and slums, housing, health, technological and social innovation, the management of risk, infrastructure, water and waste disposal, changing labour markets, sustainable development, democratic participation. Governing populations divided and organized by class, income, religion, ethnic origin, mobility and/or gender has become even more difficult in a globalizing world where opportunities for mobility, participation in overlapping networks, interdependence and the scale of large urban regions make classic territorial conceptions of government and public policies partly obsolete. Students receive rigorous methodological training, experience from international professionals and exposure to high level academic content. The programme is taught entirely in English with a great emphasis on issues of comparative study. No ready made recipes are provided, and no simple fairy stories on the so called "best practices of good governance": the programme trains the students with a strong critical approach and management skills so as to be competent for project accounting and decision making to implement urban policy in critical environments. Systematic relations are built with urban professionals... [-]

Master in Economic Law The Master in Economic Law is a two-year program. The application procedure is exactly the same as for other Master programs at Sciences Po, with the identical tuition fees, deadline and scholarships. Teaching method Courses in the master in Economic Law are designed in a gradual fashion, so that students, even without any specific legal knowledge prior to admission, can become familiar with the required techniques. Thus, first semester classes will essentially cover core concepts, while later semesters will gradually evolve towards specialized and practical bodies of law. To implement this incremental approach, first year courses are taught by academics, while second year courses are mostly taught by professionals. The Sciences Po Law School curriculum provides students with a firm handle of fundamental concepts of law, a deep comprehension of their theoretical underpinnings, and a clear understanding of their practical implications. Therefore, courses mainly rely on a teaching method that gives priority to debates between professors and students. This itself requires that classes be prepared by each student in advance, based on distributed handouts. This way, students acquire a global understanding of Law, along with experience in exposing and discussing various points of view. Emphasis is also laid on readings, analysis of decisions, research on concrete cases (past or current), contracts elaboration, etc. Organization of courses The master in Economic Law is a very intensive formation. Master in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action

Campus Full time September 2017 France Paris

Over the past decades, human rights have known a singular development that upsets the traditional Westphalian order of the world. [+]

Master in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action General objectives Over the past decades, human rights have known a singular development that upsets the traditional Westphalian order of the world. Human rights are often perceived as the panacea of the many ills that convulse today's global society: failing aid to development, impunity, corruption, social injustice, indignity, insecurity… Omnipresent, they are no longer the exclusive matter of international advocacy NGOs: governments, intergovernmental organizations, corporations, development agencies, local organizations working in the fields of health, education, environmental protection, labour… are and will be confronted with the exacting demands of human rights discourse. This cannot be truer than in the field of humanitarian action which has also known (unsurprisingly) a formidable expansion in parallel. This intertwining of human rights and humanitarian action would seem natural but is not in fact historically based, and is both intellectually and pragmatically challenging. Main orientations and specific feature The Master in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action programme provides students with a unique blend of core social science approaches (philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology) to humanitarianism and human rights intended to deconstruct the intuitive familiarity between the two fields and renew the debate concerning the universalism and political neutrality of human rights and humanitarian action through empirical study. It also offers indispensable courses in international law and global/regional institutional frameworks and advocacy skills. The teaching and learning objective is to give students the tools for strong analytical contextualisation that gives both depth and breadth to the issues and stakes in... [-]
