1996 The Development Research Academy for the 21st Century was established to provide world-class research and consultation in the field of public policy and development.
1998 The Department of Public Administration was established in the School of Economics and Management to foster high-level civil servants.
2000 The School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) was established on October 24 as the first PA school in China.
2002 The first group of MPA students matriculated at SPPM.
2003 Doctoral program in Public Policy and Management was launched.
2005 The first MPA-E class started.
2007 The Master’s in International Development (MID) was launched.
SPPM received an excellent rating in the first National Evaluation of MPA programs.
2008 The Master’s in International Public Administration (IMPA) was launched.
2009 Joint the global network of the MDP (Master of Development Practice).
2010 Ten-year anniversary
SPPM currently has 20 full-time professors, 12 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, and 52 postdoctoral researchers. There are more than 800 graduate students in the school, of whom almost 130 are international students from nearly 60 countries around the world. The School is affiliated with six permanent research centers: the Institute of Government, the Public Policy Institute, the NGO Research Center, the Institute of International Strategy and Development, the Center for China Studies, the Institute of Taiwan Studies and more than a dozen research centers and institutes based on projects, namely: the China Institution for Science and Technology Policy at Tsinghua University, the China Institute for Planning and Development at Tsinghua University, the Center for Science, the Technology and Education Policy at Tsinghua University, the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance (CIDEG), the Anti-Corruption and Governance Research Center (ACGRC), the Employment and Social Security Research Center, the Research Center for Regional and Urban Development (RUDC), the Clean Development Mechanism Research Center (CDM-RDC), the Government Innovation Research Center, the Center for Environmental Policy and Management, the Health and Development Institute (HADI), and the Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Research Center for Emergency Management.
The mission of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University is to provide academic and professional training programs in public management and to pursue academic excellence and practical application in public policy and management research. The school’s long-term objective is to become a world-class public administration institution that actively engages in teaching, research, training, and consulting.
