The MFA program focuses on advanced techniques and the theory of interior architecture and design. The curriculum—designed and taught by industry professionals—focuses on research, concept and design development, traditional and digital media, innovative ideas, and global issues.

The Post-Professional Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design (MFA2) program explores interior design on a deeper level and shapes students to be leaders in the design field. The two-year, full-time program is in New York City and is open to those with an advanced portfolio and professional degree in interior design, architecture, engineering, or a closely related field.

The Master of Interior Architecture is the highest degree offered by the Institute. The curriculum is an advanced learning level, promoting a higher standard of academia than the Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design Degree. It is consistent with the goals, objectives, and mission of the college.

The Master of Interior Design (MID) program provides an education in interior environments that elevates and reinvents the discipline of interior architecture by mining and re-imagining the range of our human experiences. In doing so, this graduate program cultivates scholars, academics and critics, while generating emergent and alternative approaches to the profession, specifically in the Southern California region.

The Master of Science in Design, Housing, and Merchandising, option in Interior Design, can help you advance your skillset with applied coursework that focuses on integrating theory and research in the field. The MS degree is designed to prepare students for careers in business, industry, Extension, and teaching in higher education.

Advance or begin your interior designer career with our completely online master of arts (MA) or master of science (MS) degree in interior design. This rigorous and innovative program will equip you to be a professional interior designer, as well as to develop and hone your creative processes in your pursuit of design excellence. The program’s emphasis is on research and theory (VS design) and during the course of study, you will learn design theory, environmental psychology, graphic communication skills, and design for ergonomic, accessibility, functional, and cultural needs. Your practical skills will be complemented with design theory, critical thinking skills, and other knowledge that will make sure you continue growing and evolving as the needs of our global populations change.

The curriculum supports students in developing strategies that account for the importance of social and environmental responsibility, while expanding upon the architect’s understanding of reuse as a product of both practice and theory. The MA program begins with a seven-week summer program in Denmark taught by faculty in RISD’s Interior Architecture department and from our partner institution, Denmark Institute for Study Abroad in Copenhagen.
