What is an MA in Urban Planning? Earning a master's degree in urban planning requires students to learn about transportation, crime, education and the environment in urban areas around the world. Core courses include policy, finance and management. Students may choose to learn about the theories and politics behind economic development and housing, about the need for cities to become more environmentally friendly, or about development planning at the international level. Microeconomics, statistical methods, policy analysis and financial management are also part of the curriculum.
A Master of Arts in Urban Planning teaches individuals a wide variety of skills. Students often learn about planning law and legislation, analytical research, professional report presentation, finance and policy development and strategic thinking. They may also develop better communication skills, learn how to work better in teams, become more creative or develop the ability to be more sensitive and diplomatic.
Earning a master’s degree in urban planning does not the cost the same amount everywhere. Students may pay more depending on how long their courses run, which university they attend and which country they live in.
