The MA in Middle Eastern Studies focuses on modern and current themes while offering intensive study progress supervision. We also provide a Master's program and/or placement abroad to the students who are interested. The program emphasizes current developments in the Middle East. You will study four core themes: history, politics, culture, and religion. There are three specializations in the first semester: Conflict, International Organizations, and Research Seminar.

The Master's track in European Literature and Interculturality is located at the Department of European Languages and Cultures. This international, interdisciplinary and multilingual environment offers excellent opportunities for research and immerses them in vibrant networks of experts across different European countries and languages. The following languages can be chosen as major languages: French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

The MA in English Literature and Culture is an academic humanities degree with a socially relevant focus. We offer you academic excellence with transferable skills, with the resources of a large research university but with small classes (typically 10-15 students), in a friendly ambiance that contributes to our positive student feedback. Our staff has received their doctorates from a mix of Dutch universities and international institutions (Oxford, Cambridge, Toronto, Edinburgh).

The MA/MSc in Linguistics: Language and Communication Technologies offers a unique combination of theoretical linguistics and computer-science research in a multi-lingual setting. It is in a rapidly evolving area of study with excellent career opportunities, both in industry and academia. The degree is also part of the Erasmus Mundus Master's Program.

In the MA in Clinical Linguistics, courses focus on neuroimaging, language processing, and developmental and acquired language disorders. The students will learn about Developmental Language Disorders, Cross-Linguistic Aspects of Aphasia, Language Testing During Awake Surgery, and Neuro Imaging and Language.

The MA in Linguistics (Research) offers a challenging multidisciplinary approach, and the students are constantly under intensive supervision by high-quality researchers in small groups. We also offer research assistantships for those who are interested. You can choose to focus your studies on Language and Cognition, Clinical Linguistics (EMCL+), or Language and Communication Technologies.

This Master's program focuses on the human language ability. You will study language acquisition, the structure of language and its characteristics, or language disorders.

The MA in International Relations (research) provides a challenging multidisciplinary approach, while students get intensive supervision by high-quality researchers in small groups. The university also offers research assistantships for the students who are interested in taking the research path. This program teaches you to carry out independent academic research and to explore recent developments in the field of modern history and international relations. You will study relevant theoretical and methodological backgrounds as well. In addition, the program includes subjects such as the international political economy, the history of cultural identity and European cooperation and integration.

The MA in International Humanitarian Action is a joint degree diploma of two European universities, it is part of the Consortium of European and Global partner universities. It is a unique, multilingual, interdisciplinary and inter-university program, with a one-of-a-kind combination of hands-on practice and theory. We also offer a career-oriented internship in humanitarian organizations and the possibility to study at one of our Global partner universities.

The MA in International Relations: International Security: (a) pays attention to the theoretical developments as well as the dimensions of the contemporary security agenda; (b) offers a research-led and policy-oriented curriculum taught by a committed staff; (c) includes a career-oriented placement that prepares graduates for the labor market, and (d) provides excellent preparation for positions at a broad variety of security-oriented and conflict-management related institutions.

By choosing MA in History, you will be trained to curate a historical exhibition or to apply digital techniques in the field of heritage management, you can learn how to interpret and evaluate cross-border historical phenomena and formulate policy advice, or you can acquire the historical methods to analyze the consequences of processes of change in organizations and companies. The expertise of our experienced staff and experts from the field is reflected in (guest) lectures, internships, and practical assignments that bring historical knowledge and theory to life. By completing one of the tracks, you will be awarded a Master of Arts degree in History.

In the MA in Information Science, the courses are directly related to state-of-the-art research in the department. We have high marks in the national student evaluation, and we have an internationally renowned computational linguistics research unit. As a student of Information Science, you will learn how to automate the process of analyzing unstructured data (such as text), transfer raw data into accessible and intelligible information. You also will do research in the domains of natural language processing, the semantic web, and computer-mediated communication.

The Master of Theology is an English-taught intensive master’s programme, accredited by the Dutch-Flemish accreditation organisation. It starts in September each academic year and lasts for one year (60 ECTS).
