Introduction
Sweden is a leading nation in games, and Skövde is the leading Swedish city in which to study game development. Here you will find bachelor's programs covering all disciplines of game development, extensive game research, a successful game incubator, and in particular a large number of game companies. All these activities are located in the middle of Skövde and united under the umbrella of Sweden Game Arena. As a master's student in game development, you will be a part of this ecosystem and benefit from a competitive advantage in a career within the international game industry.
About the Programme
The game development program is aimed at applicants with a bachelor's degree in any of the many areas involved in game development. You will gain not only a broad theoretical and practical understanding of game development but also an in-depth understanding of a specialist area. Students who graduate from the program can move on to game companies and PhD programs in most countries, but it is also possible to stay in Skövde and pursue a career in games.
The Focus of Your Studies
The program is focused on the complex processes underlying the birth of a game. Applied game development is combined with theoretical studies of games, game development, and gaming. Game design, game testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration are key elements of education. The program focuses on the game industry and as a student, you will have opportunities to collaborate with external game development companies and organizations.
The program has two elective specializations that affect the module offerings during the first year: games user experience (GUX) and serious games (SG). Games User Experience focuses on studies and analyses of the gaming experience, and various methods and tools from game development will be studied and used. Serious Games focuses on games that are not solely intended for entertainment, such as games for learning or training.
In addition to these specializations, the program provides good opportunities for deepening and broadening – largely depending on your interest. There are opportunities for completing parts of the education in close collaboration with game companies, for example in the form of field studies. A semester can be completed at one of our partner universities in Asia, America, or Europe.

Career Opportunities
Upon Completion of Your Studies
The specialization in the program gives you the opportunity to develop excellence in a specific field, while at the same time achieving a broad understanding of the unique conditions of game development. This combination provides a good foundation for an international career in the game industry. Another possible career path is represented by companies outside of the traditional game industry that wants to develop or acquire game-based solutions and systems. There is also an opportunity to move on to Ph.D. studies.
