Introduction

The main objective of the Master is to train high-level specialists in the field of ceramic materials and processes with a view to professional integration in the industry (engineer level) or in research (R&D, academic).

The training is mainly based on fundamental and thematic courses covering in a transversal way the physical and chemical aspects of functional ceramic materials and their processes of development, shaping, surface treatments, and control.

The topics covered relate to the current socio-economic issues of Energy, Health, and ICT.

Finally, the training gives students knowledge of the socio-economic world and the relational and behavioural skills necessary for teamwork.

This Master covers the physical and chemical aspects of functional ceramic materials (solid or in layers), their processes of development, shaping, and controls in a transversal way.

It is strongly based on teachings oriented towards new synthetic routes and processes, studying the structure, microstructure, and properties of innovative ceramic materials in energy, transport, and technology: information and telecommunications (optics, microelectronics, etc.), health, and the environment.

The student acquires both theoretical and practical background by taking advantage of the strong interaction of teacher-researchers with the industrial environment.

This training is based on the recognized scientific skills of research laboratories (Energy, Health, and New Technologies) backed by the European Pole of Ceramics (PEC), one of the two competitiveness clusters in Limousin.

It thus gives students holding the diploma the opportunity to prepare a paid doctoral thesis at the University of Limoges or in other French or foreign universities in the science of ceramic materials.

It also trains executives who can meet the demands of industrialists (Research and Development sector) and public or private laboratories in the field of synthesis, properties, and functionalization of advanced ceramic materials.

At the end of the course, each student has a descriptive appendix to the diploma called a “diploma supplement,” which offers him a detailed description of the university course followed and the skills acquired during the study period and a fair judgment on his achievements and skills.
