Introduction
The Master's degree program in engineering for the safety of critical industrial and civil infrastructures aims to meet the growing demand for professionals skilled in safety and resilience, in response to emerging technological and environmental challenges. The program is offered in both Italian and English and is part of an inter-university collaboration between the University of Salento and the Polytechnic of Bari. Courses train engineers with specific knowledge and skills for an interdisciplinary and systemic approach to industrial and civil infrastructure design and management. A deal of attention is paid to life--, economic and environmental design and management methods, with the support of up-to-date digital technology for data analysis.
Quantitative risk assessment models for both natural and anthropogenic risk are addressed, alongside strategies, technologies, and tools for risk prevention and management. Such subjects allow for defining comprehensive methods aimed at critical infrastructures’ resilience enhancement. Practical experience is also integrated into the curriculum, through cooperation with companies and institutions, to align education with industry needs.
