Introduction
The course provides advanced professional knowledge, skills, and abilities appropriate for the performance of the profession of museum curator. More specifically, the qualification sets out the following training objectives:
- To provide the Museum Curator with a solid legal basis regarding the museum as a cultural institution and the protection of cultural heritage within the Spanish legislative framework.
- Develop methodological skills for the advanced analysis of cultural heritage assets from the profession of Museum Conservator, both from the point of view of their cataloging and historical-artistic study, as well as the most appropriate strategies for their conservation and dissemination.
- To comprehensively study the tangible and intangible evidence of cultural heritage, taking into account the chronological diversity of each product, its plurality of supports and media, and the disciplinary framework with which it has traditionally been studied.
- Master the most advanced functions of the museum curator profession, both those related to the management of cultural assets and those concerning the internal functioning of the museum as a cultural institution in the 21st century.
Finally, and upon completion of the teaching and learning process of the degree, the student will be able to undertake professional work specialized in museum conservation and will have developed research skills in the field of museum studies that will qualify him or her for access to a doctoral program in the fields of Social Sciences, Arts, Humanities or Communication.

Competences
- COM1 - Apply scientific procedures for technical documentation, preservation, educational communication, and public dissemination of museum collections in relation to the different professional departments that currently structure these institutions.
- COM2 - Perform tasks related to the daily operation and routine maintenance of museum institutions, taking into account the main work methodologies in the field of museum studies.
- COM3 - Analyze the functions of the museum conservation professional in contemporary society and understand the historical dimensions that have conditioned its evolution over time.
- COM4 - Assimilate the complexity of museum sustainability from critical, systemic, and interdisciplinary thinking, understanding how the professional activity of the museum curator interacts with society and the environment to identify possible challenges, risks, and impacts, making responsible use of resources.
- COM5 - Address ethical dilemmas and deontological issues in museum work, knowing the limits of the profession and contributing to professional practice for the preservation of cultural heritage for future generations.
Knowledge or Content
- CON1 - Adequate knowledge of the legal framework of the State administration and of the legislation on cultural heritage and its application in the usual tasks of museum curators.
- CON2 - Understand the theoretical foundations of the scientific disciplines involved in the profession of museum curator, in accordance with both traditional and more recent historiographic trends.
- CON3 - Recognize and evaluate the processes of administration and professional management of museums and collections, being responsible for cultural assets, the institution, the environment itself, and global society.
- CON4 - Master the scientific terminology specific to museum studies and cultural policies, applying it to the knowledge of the main Spanish collections.
- CON5 - Identify the most important historiographical contributions in the specific field of museum studies in various HAB1 - Manage bibliography, documentation, legislation, databases, and computer programs specific to rehabilitation engineering.
Skills or Abilities
- HAB1 - Visually analyze the material and immaterial realities of cultural heritage in its technical, structural, historical, iconographic, cultural, and geographical diversity, taking into account the scientific criteria of the disciplinary fields involved in its study.
- HAB2 - Carry out scientific cataloging, technical assessment, and visual evaluation of the state of conservation of cultural assets of the Spanish heritage using the most appropriate terminology and the most suitable specialized technical means.
- HAB3 - Prepare written academic dissertations related to the professional tasks of the museum curator, taking into account both the latest methodological trends and the most recent bibliography.
- HAB4 - Communicate orally about different types of public scientific topics related to the dimensions of the professional practice of the museum curator, demonstrating a command of the most relevant bibliographical references.
