Introduction

The course provides advanced professional knowledge, skills, and abilities appropriate for the performance of the profession of museum curator. More specifically, the qualification sets out the following training objectives:

  • To provide the Museum Curator with a solid legal basis regarding the museum as a cultural institution and the protection of cultural heritage within the Spanish legislative framework.
  • Develop methodological skills for the advanced analysis of cultural heritage assets from the profession of Museum Conservator, both from the point of view of their cataloging and historical-artistic study, as well as the most appropriate strategies for their conservation and dissemination.
  • To comprehensively study the tangible and intangible evidence of cultural heritage, taking into account the chronological diversity of each product, its plurality of supports and media, and the disciplinary framework with which it has traditionally been studied.
  • Master the most advanced functions of the museum curator profession, both those related to the management of cultural assets and those concerning the internal functioning of the museum as a cultural institution in the 21st century.

Finally, and upon completion of the teaching and learning process of the degree, the student will be able to undertake professional work specialized in museum conservation and will have developed research skills in the field of museum studies that will qualify him or her for access to a doctoral program in the fields of Social Sciences, Arts, Humanities or Communication.
