Introduction
The Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Brazil. It was inaugurated as the Higher School of Agriculture and Veterinary (Esav), on August 28, 1926. Esav was transformed into the Rural University of the State of Minas Gerais (Uremg), in 1948, and federalized, as UFV, in 1969. In addition to the campus located in the city of Viçosa, the University has, since 2006, the UFV - Florestal and UFV - Rio Paranaíba campuses, located in Florestal (MG) and Rio Paranaíba (MG), respectively.
Initially, the institution stood out in Agrarian Sciences, with courses in Agriculture and Veterinary. Today, in addition to continuing to be a reference in the area, it also has excellence in teaching, research, and the extension of the Biological, Exact, and Human sciences.
UFV offers secondary and technical education, undergraduate courses, and graduate programs on its three campuses, in which more than 20 thousand students are enrolled. In total, the University has graduated more than 60 thousand professionals and guided the defense of more than 12 thousand master's dissertations and four thousand doctoral theses.
Often, the Federal University of Viçosa is featured in educational rankings in the country and the world. It has already been, three times, among the top 100 higher education institutions in the world in the area of Agricultural and Forest Sciences, according to the QS World University Rankings , and among the best in Minas Gerais, according to the Times Higher Education ranking and the BRICS & Emerging Economies . The performance of the students of the Colégio de Aplicação (CAp-Coluni) was also considered, for seven consecutive times, the best among public schools in the country, in the National High School Education Examination (Enem).
