The Master’s Degree in English and Spanish for Specific Purposes is aimed at:

European and non-European citizens holding a doctorate degree, higher qualification, or European Space for Higher Education degree, who wish to acquire a joint academic specialization in English and Spanish for specific purposes.

According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied with to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:

To be in possession of a Spanish official graduate degree certificate or other issued by an institution of higher education within the EHEA (European Higher Education) enables the holder to have access to Master’s degrees in the issuing.

To be in possession of an officially approved foreign higher education degree certificate that had been recognized as equal to the degree that allows access to the requested studies.

To be in possession of a university degree certificate obtained in a University or Higher Education Institution of countries outside the EHEA, without the prior approval of their studies. In this case, the following should be considered:

Non-recognized degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.

Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.

After successful completion of this training module, students are awarded a Master's Degree In English And Spanish For Specific Purposes.

Curriculum

The objectives of the Master’s Degree course are threefold:

To acquire a high degree of academic specialization in the linguistic discipline of English for specific purposes (ESP).

To acquire a high degree of academic specialization in the linguistic discipline of Spanish for specific purposes (SSP).

To acquire the knowledge, theories, linguistic models, and techniques necessary to carry out applied linguistics research in languages for specific purposes (ESP and SSP).

Linguistic parameters in determining authorship of written texts.

Linguistic parameters in determining authorship of oral texts.

The language used in police interrogations.

Bilingual terminology and terminography (English/Spanish/Spanish/English).

New technology applications in linguistic research and mediation (English/Spanish).

Corpus linguistics and corpus-based terminography.

E-learning in teaching languages for specific purposes.

Financial language: Terminology and neologisms.

Research in pragmatic and cognitive communicative elements in business.

Communicative theory in economic and financial Spanish: production and reception of texts. Text typology.

Intercultural pragmatics in specific contexts.

The professional and academic Spanish lexicon: processes of creating neologisms and disseminating knowledge through terminology.

Research techniques in languages for specific purposes: the role of the English language in the development of the tourism and leisure industry.
