Introduction
The Master's Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure (previously known as the Master's Degree in Criminal Justice) aims to offer a postgraduate degree in substantive criminal law and criminal procedure law, paying special attention to the criminal phenomena of our time, such as corruption, organised crime, new technologies, or corporate crime, and to new tools, such as international legal cooperation or restorative justice. It also seeks to delve deeper into the appropriate imputation structures to address this type of criminality based on the principles that inspire the criminal law of the social and democratic State of Law.
The master's degree is divided into two semesters in which students will take different subjects, allowing them to define the area of specialization that they wish to study from the second semester onwards by choosing up to four subjects from all those proposed. The master's degree includes the completion of a master's thesis (12 ECTS) at the end of the course, which will be defended before a panel of specialists.
The master's teaching staff is made up of UC3M teaching and research staff, most of whom hold PhDs, without prejudice to having associate professors from the judicial or legal field and guest professors from other universities of recognized prestige in the different subjects.
The Master's degree will promote the possibility of undertaking extracurricular internships in judicial bodies or law firms (the latter being especially suitable for those who have completed or are currently completing the Master's degree for access to the legal profession).
Completion of the Master's Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure allows access to doctoral studies at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid provided that the complementary research credits indicated by the Doctoral School and the rest of the requirements established in the program are taken.
