Introduction
In the last decade, the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and Next Generation Wireless Technologies (5G, 6G) have been increasingly conquering the minds of researchers and engineers. Now it is one of the most promising fields of Industry 4.0 with a market value of more than $100 bln and stable annual growth.
The MSc program is 2 years long: the first year is to strengthen your theoretical background, and the second year is to focus on research. Students have the freedom to choose courses and extracurricular activities to shape their individual trajectory, acquire soft skills, and gain entrepreneurial skills to prepare for employment.
Lectures and seminars Our degree program is truly multidisciplinary and highly vocational. We provide the opportunity of designing individual study plans which cover compulsory and optional courses. | Research All academic staff are research active and draw on close links to our research partners in Russia and overseas. Students may start their own research project within the first year and publish research results in a reputable journal or conference proceedings. | Entrepreneurship In addition to academic lectures, you will attend lectures/talks/seminars given by experienced entrepreneurs and business leaders. On completion, students will graduate with the knowledge and experience of setting up their own start-up. | Internship 8-week industrial placement after the 1st year, working on a substantial project and gaining first-hand experience of the practical application of IoT and wireless technologies. |
Why earn your Master's at Skoltech?
Research-based teaching All Skoltech faculty and academic staff are engaged in internationally recognized scientific research across a wide range of topics. We incorporate findings from this research into teaching. | Facilities The campus is equipped with the latest facilities for teaching and research including the 5G Skolkovo test zone. The labs (5G/IoT Lab, Huawei-Skoltech Lab) are also equipped with industry-standard hardware and software. | International study and Industrial experience All courses are taught in English. Top students are granted internships for international studies (up to 6 months). The majority of students' projects are in collaboration with industry partners. | Career Program graduates work in the private and public sectors in telecommunications, software engineering, manufacturing, etc. An alternative option is undertaking the research degrees (Ph.D.) in Russia (Skoltech) or overseas (Stanford, ETH Zurich). |
Aim and objectives
The aim of the program is to instruct the next generation of STEM leaders ready to design principles and architectures as well as develop applications and services in the framework of IoT paradigm and Next Generation Wireless Technologies (5G, 6G), including the following objectives:
- Develop IoT real applications and improve them with smart technologies and leverage on sensed data
- Deliver an IoT-based product from scratch, ‘pitch and sell’ it
- Become a developer of next-gen wireless communication protocols and solutions, such as 6G and beyond
- Devise solutions for industrial cases (healthcare, agriculture, etc.) using IoT
Program structure
The 2-year program comprises compulsory and recommended elective courses on the most important topics, a wide set of elective courses (depending on the research and professional needs of the student), components of entrepreneurship and innovation, research activity, and 8 weeks of industry immersion.
36 credits compulsory and recommended elective courses | 36 credits Research and MSc thesis project | 24 credits Elective courses and projects |
