Introduction

Business Solutions & IT Innovations

As companies strive toward greater efficiency and effectiveness by e-enabling their business processes, the meshing of IT and business knowledge continues to be a critical success factor. The Master of Internet Technology Program meets this challenge by providing its students with a strong and well-rounded foundation in both the hard technology and softer management skill sets.

The Internet Technology Program in the Department of MIS at the Terry College of Business has now converted the successful Master of Internet Technology (MIT) degree program to a new part-time version. This part-time program will be offered at Gwinnett University Center in metro Atlanta and will have virtually the same curriculum as the former full-time program. Classes will be taught in the evenings two days per week. The program consists of five contiguous semesters, including one summer semester. Students who start the program in the fall semester, 2005 will graduate at the end of the spring semester, 2007. Students will proceed through the program as a cohort.

About The Program

The Master of Internet Technology (Master of IT) Program officially began in August 2001. It is one of a few multidisciplinary masters degree programs offered by The University of Georgia. The vision is to bridge the gap between management (business) and computing (technology) instruction. The program is administered by the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) in the Terry College of Business

The Master of IT Program is delivered over five semesters, from August of the first academic year to May of the second year. Students are required to complete 32 semester hours of coursework. Eleven credit hours involve project management instruction and a project internship in which students work as a team to develop an Internet-based solution for a client. Projects are done for actual businesses and organizations to solve a current problem or leverage the Internet to expand business opportunities. These are large projects that provide students with practical project management and development experience. Each team commits a total of 950 to 1200 hours developing and managing their project.

Students develop skills in Internet technology and software development while also learning the aesthetics of Web media and the business considerations of electronic commerce. Graduates of the Master of IT Program are capable of working and advancing in the rapidly growing fields of e-business and Internet development as designers, software developers, and managers.
