Introduction
Cultivation of renewable resources | chemical-material use | energetic use | economics
The Master’s Program Biomass Technology is an interdisciplinary master’s program for qualified students with bachelor’s degrees in natural sciences, engineering and life sciences. It offers the possibility of a broad education in the field of biomass production, use and utilization – from the sustainable production of renewable resources to the technological use and utilization of biomass. The term biomass is understood as the material mass of all living organisms (animals, plants, algae, fungi and bacteria) or parts thereof. The interdisciplinary course of studies teaches the basic and scientific content of the relevant chemical-material, material and energy technologies for the processing and utilization of biomass. In addition, economic issues, ecological and sustainability aspects for the production as well as the use and utilization of biomass production are also dealt with.
Admissions
Curriculum
Structure
This master program covers 4 semesters (120 Credit Points). In the first two semesters, there are 6 compulsory modules (e.g. Mechanical process engineering and Conceptual process design) with together 34 credit points. Further on there are Election modules (at least 56 credit points). In the fourth semester, you can write your master’s thesis (30 credit points).
Program Outcome
Learning outcomes
With the compulsory modules (e.g. Mechanical process engineering and Conceptual process design) you will be given the profile of sustainable energy use, further the ability of the development of products out of biogenic resources. Biogenic raw materials became a key role not only at the energy supply but as well at the supply of raw materials in general. In order to get a structural change in the sense of bioeconomy to sustainable energy and material economy, engineers and scientists will be needed, who know about the complex structure of biogenic raw materials as well as energy technology and process engineering.
The further expertise and skills the students will acquire depend on the choice of their elective modules. The possibilities are renewables, Cooperative design projects, biomass utilization, leading in the process engineering fields, knowledge of sustainability aspects, etc.
