Introduction
The M.S. in Biotechnology program at Syracuse University provides students with highly flexible, customizable options and rigorous, advanced scientific training and education. It is extremely interdisciplinary in nature, weaving together biological and engineering science research with principles and practices of business management.

Curriculum
- Uniquely interdisciplinary, the personalized curriculum allows students the maximum ability to follow their interests.
- Non-thesis academic, research and laboratory training program.
- A minimum of 36 total credits are required, which may be completed in two to three semesters.
- Expert guidance in professional development throughout the program.
- Students choose either independent research or a biotechnology internship for real-world, hands-on experience.
All students must first complete the following seven required lecture and laboratory courses, which will provide solid groundwork in advanced principles from three different areas of biotechnology—biological sciences, business management, and industrial biotechnology:
- BEN 602 - Ethical Issues in Engineering and Research
- BIO 600 - Advances in Biotechnology Research
- BIO 600 - Experimental Designs and Interpretations
- BIO 663 - Molecular Biotechnology (lecture/laboratory course, 4 credits)
- BIO 664 - Applied Biotechnology (lecture/laboratory course, 4 credits)
- BIO 600 - Capstone Seminar in Biotechnology
- EEE 620 - Foundations of Entrepreneurship
Upon completing the seven required gateway courses, students will personalize their remaining curriculum by choosing to pursue one of the four following biotechnology tracks, and completing an additional 15 credits.
