Introduction

Prospective MS Students

The Leeds School of Business offers the MS degree in two areas:

  • Financial Accounting (MS ACCT)
  • Accounting with a Tax emphasis (MS ACTX)


Objective

The objective of the program is to provide students with a greater breadth and depth of understanding of accounting and business than is possible in an undergraduate program.


Why Choose the MS Program?

The MS ACCT and MS ACTX programs are designed for students whose primary career interests are in accounting and auditing. The program provides an excellent foundation and prepares students for careers as professional accountants in:

- financial institutions
- government
- industry
- nonprofit organizations
- public practice


Prerequisites

General Information

If the undergraduate degree was in business, most prerequisites for the MS degree are satisfied except for three intermediate level accounting courses:

  • Intermediate Financial Accounting I
  • Intermediate Financial Accounting II
  • Cost Management Accounting

If the undergraduate degree was not in business, 27 credits of business and economics are required:

  • Business Computer skills
  • Business Statistics
  • Introductory Accounting
  • Introductory Finance
  • Introductory Marketing
  • Introductory Management
  • Business Law
  • Macro Economics
  • Micro Economics

followed by the three intermediate level accounting courses listed above, for a total of 36 credits.

Prerequisites can be taken at any university. Applications will not be considered for admission into the MS program prior to enrollment in Intermediate Financial Accounting I.
