Introduction
Drawing on academic and industry expertise from around the world, this course is designed to meet the requirements of professionals and organisations involved in the bidding process and delivery of sporting events of all sizes - from the Olympic Games to the Leeds Half Marathon.
You will address the challenges facing sports events managers, including the increasing pressure to meet the demands of global governing bodies and how to manage a volunteer workforce, secure appropriate sponsorship packages, reduce risk and ensure the health, safety and security of every stakeholder.
By developing the specialist knowledge and skills required, you will be able to strategically plan and manage sporting events to the satisfaction of regional, national and international stakeholders.

Curriculum
How Will I Be Assessed?
This course is assessed through a range of online and face-to-face activities, including case studies, reports, presentations and projects. There are no exams. This blended approach represents the way the events industry operates and will provide real-world experience.
Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through several modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Develop your understanding of the issues affecting sports event management now and in the future. You will gain a valuable overview of contemporary thinking to understand sports events, as a case study, alongside sports' role in the wider world in which we live.
Event Operations & Event Risk Management
Explore the functions of operations, project delivery, risk and quality management and their contribution to the core operation of events and events businesses.
Strategic & Financial Management for Events Organisations
Critically examine conceptual frameworks, models and techniques of strategic and financial management and apply these to event case studies. You will reflect upon contemporary and cultural issues surrounding the development and use of strategy and finance and its position within contemporary event organisations.
Sponsorship & Marketing for Sports Events
Develop an in-depth understanding of the contexts, challenges and strategies needed to address the demands of the integrated sports event marketing mix and sponsorship.
HRM & Leadership in Events
Gain a critical understanding of how leadership, management and human resources interact within event organisations. You will learn how to manage and lead event workforces, including the HR strategies available to supervising event volunteers.
Research Methods & Event Evaluation
Gain the knowledge, skills and techniques required to conceive, plan, execute research and evaluate events, that will enable you to complete a major research project at masters level.
