Introduction
The Master of Science in Strategic Human Resources Management (MScSHRM) programme is designed to empower aspired HR professionals to become Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP). Through engaging in action learning, practising evidence-based HR, and cultivating agility and global vision, HR professionals will gain advanced management knowledge and practical HR skills, develop a strategic mindset, and sharpen their business acumen and people management competencies. The range of topics spans from understanding workplace behaviour, mastering HR strategic processes for talent management, developing governance capabilities and ethical cultures within organisations, to conducting HR inquiries using analytics and consultancy skills. Graduates will be able to perform the HRBP roles and leverage human capital to enhance an organisation’s competitive advantage. Classes of this two-year programme are arranged at weekends, allowing students to better integrate work with study.
Our graduates will contribute significantly to critical areas of management by:
- Exhibit an understanding of strategic and global management as they pertain to human resource management;
- Demonstrate state-of-the-art knowledge of human capital management including HR and succession planning, talent management, performance appraisal system, and HR measurements;
- Develop strategies for human resources which are capable of influencing corporate decision-making;
- Speak the boardroom language on topics of finance, technology, marketing and operations, and perform the role of strategic business partner;
- Act as a change agent to manage innovation and human capital;
- Design ethical practices that clarify behavioural / professional standards, and create an organisational culture that upholds high coporate governance standards;
- Create a cultural bridge between local managers and their counterparts in other parts of the world.

HKBU Scholarship
Graduation Academic Award
The Graduation Academic Award is designed to reward students who have attained excellent scholastic performance in their MScSHRM study at HKBU. The award is worth HK$10,000 and is available to the top 3 students who have attained:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above;
- No repeated courses; and
- No course grade below B-
HKBU Alumni Entrance Award
The HKBU Alumni Entrance Award aims to encourage our HKBU Bachelor’s Degree alumni to pursue continuous learning. The award is worth HK$10,000 and is available to a maximum of 2 top alumni students with highest accumulative GPA.
The award recipients will be notified during Orientation and shall receive HK$2,500 in the first semester of their MScSHRM study at HKBU and HK$2,500 per semester, starting from the second semester upon achieving cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above (out of 4.0 maximum) in each semester of MScSHRM study.
Eligible Awardees:
- HKBU Bachelor’s Degree alumni;
- Limited to the top two alumni students with highest accumulative GPA; and
- Overall Degree standing should not be lowered than Second Class Honour Division I
Financial Assistance
Students can apply for the HKSAR’s Continuing Education Fund (CEF) for a reimbursement up to HK$20,000 (from 1 April 2019) and/or HKSAR’s Government Extended Non-Means Tested Loan Schemes (ENLS).

Programme Feature
The HKBU Business School Department of Management has been the leading provider serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing HR practices. The programme involves the following distinctive features.
- Global Focus Acquire information in the global business environment with emphasis on professional contexts in HRM and international HRM standards.
- International Faculty Lead by internationally renowned HRM experts, many of whom have written outstanding books, have offered consulting services and executive training programmes to multinational and local companies.
- Action Learning Approach Learn in an interactive environment to solve real-life problems that involves taking action, developing practical and creative strategies to deal with pressing issues.
- Learning Mode Comprise lectures, web-based learning, group discussions, presentations, field projects, coursework, library and internet research, guest speakers, and case studies.
- Weekend Class Offer on a two-year part-time basis with classes on weekends. Classes are scheduled on both Saturdays and Sundays, from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. A typical course involves 5-day class contact (from 2021-22 academic year).
- International Recognition MScSHRM is mapped to the CIPD Level 7 Diploma in Human Resources Management. As the CIPD Approved Centre, MScSHRM students need to join as a Student member throughout the duration of their studies in order to obtain CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in HRM. On successful completion of MScSHRM programme, graduates will gain Associate professional membership and will be eligible to upgrade to either Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow providing they are able to demonstrate the relevant skills and behaviours in accordance with the membership criteria for these levels.
- Professional HR Network Networking and collaboration opportunities with class members and alumni from diverse backgrounds. Resources, information, and communication opportunities available to better connect with the HR industry and international HR professional associations.
- Professional Qualification Prepare students to attain the HRM certification examination in the PRC (人力資源管理師資格認證考試). Qualify for membership in the following professional associations:

- The Hong Kong People Management Association (HKPMA)
- The International Institute of Management
- The Institute of Training Professionals
Learning Goals
Upon completion of the MScSHRM Programme, students will be able to:
- Apply the key principles of people management in problem solving situations.
- Apply the fundamental concepts of industrial-organisational psychology in the analysis and evaluation of human behaviour in the workplace.
- Design HRM strategies and interventions which can shape corporate direction, placing due emphasis on ethical behaviour and professionalism.
- Perform as an internationally-oriented manager in cross-cultural business environments; act as a cultural bridge between local Asian managers and their counterparts elsewhere; relate and adapt concepts tested elsewhere to suit the circumstances of a rich diversity of work cultures and societies in Asia.
- Apply leadership concepts to deliver change effectively and be able to conduct client-based consulting projects.
- Enhance oral and written communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and decision making skills.
