Introduction

The Department of Neuroscience, City University of Hong Kong was established on July 1, 2019. Our Vision is to perform ground-breaking research on the nervous system and to establish an outstanding educational platform for neuroscience training that prepares graduates for the exciting and diverse career landscape of the future.

Programmes

The Department of Neuroscience offers programmes that equip graduates for extraordinary career opportunities in expanding fields including healthcare, basic research, pharmaceutical industry and education, among other options. Currently, MPhil and PhD research degree programmes are offered. An undergraduate degree curriculum in neuroscience is under development.

Research

The Department of Neuroscience offers an outstanding neuroscience research environment that features innovative scientists working across a broad range of topic areas. Interdisciplinary research draws on essential strengths of City University in the areas of biology, veterinary medicine, engineering, chemistry and computer science. The dynamic intellectual environment of City University encourages the fearless pursuit of important neuroscience questions and seeks translational opportunities with benefits for society.

Neuroscience is entering a period of extraordinary opportunity for translating basic findings into medically important innovations. For example, recent advances in understanding the pathophysiology of devastating diseases such as stroke, dementia and Parkinson disease open the door for neuroscience research to discover novel therapies. These opportunities include the scientific pursuit of insights about the many neurological conditions caused by gene abnormalities.
