Introduction

Acupuncture has been recognized as a specialty in the health area since 1985, it is an integral part of the set of therapies classified since 2006 as “Complementary Integrative Practice” - PIC, but it has been part of the therapeutic arsenal at the three levels of health care for much longer. It consists of inserting needles in specific points of the body, associated with other forms of stimulation of these points (such as suction cups, heating, electrostimulation, low-power laser, etc.), and it has been practiced for millennia. The first historical findings of its use in the treatment of disease date back more than 4,000 years. From the 1960s on, acupuncture began to be understood in a scientific way in academic circles, through the theories of neuromodulation and immunological response to treatment.

Health professionals are always looking for new ways to care for their patients, seeking through their technical and professional improvement to learn techniques that are less invasive to their patients and more effective, focusing ethically on the well-being of the patient, taking based on the vision of holism in health. Humanization in care today is a basic and mandatory requirement for the practice of any health profession, and this has always been the fundamental precept of acupuncture, as an integralist and humanistic technique. All class councils of the higher-level health professions (Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Biomedicine, Physical Education, Speech Therapy, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Biology and Veterinary Medicine), if they do not officially recognize acupuncture as a formal specialty or complementary qualification, they do not prohibit their partner from performing this technique, on the contrary, they even encourage its practice. Acupuncture can be practiced in doctor's offices, clinics, hospitals, health centers, gyms, among others.

Differentials / Teaching Methodology

The course was designed on the basis of the WHO recommendation on the teaching of acupuncture and adapted to be in accordance with Brazilian rules and legislation. There will be a total of 1,200 hours of course over a period of 24 months. It consists of a part based on the classic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, from its history to the application of acupuncture in pathologies in all health clinics, and a part where the scientific bases of acupuncture, its mechanisms of action, and updating are explained. constant of its theoretical bases and its clinical practice, learning about the use of the common therapeutic techniques and devices of acupuncture, from the classics (needles, suction cups, moxibustion, digital pressure) to the most recent technologies for its practice (such as electroacupuncture and laserpuncture).
