Introduction
The world has changed: 12 months to study a new approach to design
Rethinking design starting from relationships, learning to communicate and design for communities, creating connections between people, companies, products, territories, mastering the digital tools that are indispensable in the world of contemporary work.
The Relational Design Master covers the different areas of planning (from service design to digital communication to social innovation) and allows you to get in touch with the most interesting realities in the world of design and communication.
With a strictly project-based approach, it is a modular learning proposal that combines online courses and blended courses with workshops in different Italian cities. A path between analog and digital to graft the new frontiers of the web and innovation on traditional practices.
Relational Design is a 1st level AFAM Master legally recognized by MIUR, promoted by ABADIR - Academy of Design and Visual Communication in partnership with SUPER - School of Applied Art.
To whom it is addressed
The Master Relational Design is an ideal opportunity for anyone who wants to improve their communication and design skills by acquiring transversal skills.
A specific background is not required: during the various editions students from different training courses have enrolled in the master, such as design, architecture, communication, economics. A good knowledge of the English language is required.
Professional outlets
Service designer, project manager, communication designer, social media manager, content designer, digital strategist, experience designer, social designer, social innovator.
Didactic Method
The master alternates online teaching and face-to-face workshops. The calendar is divided into 8 modules plus a one-week summer camp for a total of 9 courses.
Some modules take place entirely online, others in blended mode: they include an online part plus a short traveling workshop. The summer camp, on the other hand, is an intensive planning experience, lasting one week, which takes place at the ABADIR Academy and concludes the didactic phase of the master.
The modules last 3 weeks. A project brief is published at the beginning of each week which includes a weekly delivery. There will also be monthly streaming talks with prominent personalities from the world of design and communication.
Online Courses
Students can follow the part online wherever they are. The working environment is the Slack platform, where briefs are published and where it is possible to interact with teachers and classmates.
Each online module includes 5 videoconferences distributed over the 3 weeks: a short introductory meeting with the teacher on the first day, 3 reviews that take place on Saturday and the presentation of the projects on the last day of the course.
The calendar of video links is organized in such a way as to make them as accessible as possible even to those who carry out a work activity. Recordings of online sessions also remain available on demand.
Students can work remotely and in complete autonomy on the development of projects. This makes the master compatible with one's professional or personal commitments.
Blended courses
The blended courses alternate an online part and a workshop. The online part provides an introductory link with the teacher and self-employment at weekly deliveries.
The workshops last 4 days and take place over the weekend, in Milan, Rome, Catania, Palermo and Matera. Together with the Summer Camp and the Degree Show they are the only activity of the master that requires physical presence.
They allow you to get in touch with different realities and territories, to experiment with a plurality of approaches to design, to work in a team, to network.
The minimum compulsory attendance is equal to 80% of the total number of hours of lessons (online and face-to-face). Once the maximum limit has been exceeded, the student will have to integrate the missing lessons by attending, at no additional cost, a replacement module chosen from those of the next edition of the master.
Internships and Erasmus
The internship is a training experience of 500 hours (equal to approximately 3 months) that each student will have to carry out during the teaching phase or within one year from its conclusion.
It can be carried out in Italy or abroad, at one of the partners of the master, at a company or reality of your choice or through the Erasmus Program, which offers the opportunity to carry out a traineeship in Europe benefiting from a mobility grant.
Among the realities that hosted trainees of the Relational Design Master there are: Agnelli Foundation, Subito.it, Print Club Torino, Alce Nero, Casa Netural, Sobrio, Museo del Mare di Genova, IdLab. Among the partners of the master are: Fuorisalone, ZERO, Internazionale, BASE Milano, Postmedia Books, Italian Stories, PUSH, Punkt, Torino Graphic Days, Kilowatt, Suq. magazine, Wonder Grottole
Thesis project
The final project must develop and deepen one of the thematic macro-areas addressed in the modules of the master.
The presentation and discussion of the thesis takes place online in an interactive way. The jury is made up of the Directors of the course, the lecturer and the coordinators of the master. The final evaluation takes into account both the thesis research and the results achieved by the student in the various modules.
The 1st level AFAM Master title is obtained after completing the educational path, which includes the training internship. If the student arrives at the Degree Dhow without having completed the 500 hours foreseen in the study plan, he will receive an intermediate and provisional certificate attesting to the passing of the didactic part of the master.
