The APSU History Department has 16 faculty, and students can study all areas of both US and non-US history. The upper-division history courses all have a low student-to-faculty ratio, so students can have close interactions with their professors. We publish a student-run history journal, so students can have papers published or get editorial experience. Our history honors society, Phi Alpha Theta, has received the best-chapter award nationally for seven years in a row. What will I learn? History is key to understanding the human condition because historical knowledge is a fundamental element of any culture. History majors will study the methods that historians use to understand the past, and they will take courses in both US and non-US history -

The Department of Social Work at Austin Peay, in association with the Mid-Tennessee Collaborative Master of Social Work, offers a master’s program designed for the working professional with on-campus courses offered in the evening and the remaining classes offered online. The mission of the MTC-MSW Program is dedicated to the enhancement of human well-being, diversity, and social justice through developing and improving systems of public social services, especially for children and families, by offering graduate training in Social Work with a hybrid model of delivery. The mission of the program reflects the dominant values of the social work profession and is dedicated to serving the needs of the region, preparing social workers with an advanced generalist practice orientation suited to the social context, and reflecting the values and skills of the profession. The advanced generalist curriculum builds on the knowledge, values, skills, and roles mastered at the foundation level. The advanced generalist curriculum requires that students have greater theoretical and methodological sophistication. It requires them to be able to work in a wider selection of practitioner roles. It requires the ability to integrate research into advanced practice, add greater depth to the provision of services, and provide the skills to function as administrators, supervisors, policy analysts, and social planners. Students who have completed the BSW degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher may be eligible to apply for Advanced Standing status. This allows for degree completion in one year of full-time study or two years if the student chooses to attend part-time. -
