We asked our students why they would recommend choosing American Studies at Kent. Here are their top five reasons: 1) The variety of modules to choose from, ranging from Literature, History, Politics, Film etc, and the seminars are relatively small in numbers. 2) The fact that it is a varied programme gives you a chance to meet many different American Studies Lecturers/staff, who are very helpful, approachable and looking out for our best interests... 3) ... and you learn to write essays in different styles, whether it be History, Literature or Politics. 4) It’s great, too, to have a choice of programme pathways, including History, Literature Or Latin American pathways. 5) And of course the choice of a year or semester abroad, with a huge variety of destinations is a perennial attraction. Oh, and we can’t count, so: 6) This is also quite a small centre, which allows lecturers/students to get to know one another. Location The School of History is based at the University of Kent's Canterbury campus. Called Durovernum by the Romans, Canterbury is a city steeped in history and as such makes a stimulating environment for anyone wishing to study the past. The green and leafy campus is situated on a hill overlooking the city, and is conveniently located for travel to both London and the continent. Best Master Degrees in the South East England in the United Kingdom. To many, the United Kingdom is the birthplace of modern theatre and the mecca for anyone who wishes to study drama. With its rich history of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Stoppard, Coward and more, the UK is often seen as the place to not only visit the theatre, but also to study and explore as a student. The UK’s emphasis on and continued support for the theatre makes it an ideal place for aspiring drama and theatre students to pursue their studies, at both the undergrad and postgrad level. Undergrad students can expect to be plunged right into the heart of theatre from day one. As UK undergrad degrees are far more focused and specialized, most students will experience acting on a regular basis and be given far more responsibility and roles as an undergrad than they would have at a US institution. In terms of technical and behind-the-scenes theatre, students will be given hands-on training much faster than they would as an undergrad in the states. Many UG Drama or Theatre courses offer an array of specialties such as acting, directing, or even studying plays themselves from an English degree. Two of our partner universities, the University of Leeds and Oxford Brookes University, offer sandwich courses which adds an additional year of study involving full-time work placement right in the theatre industry, often with playhouses or studios. We currently have 16 partner universities that offer Drama and Theatre courses... [-]

Established in 1840 as a teacher training college, the University of Winchester has built on this history with high quality and innovative teacher education programmes. This PGCE Primary programme trains students to teach in the 5-11 age range. The programme experience is intensive yet intellectually stimulating - it involves high levels of active participation and personal and professional commitment, enabling the development of thoughtful and high quality entrants to the teaching profession. The PGCE Primary is a postgraduate professional programme of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) leading to the award of either Postgraduate Certificate in Education (with Masters level credits) or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, both including the recommendation of the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Students undertake studies in all elements of primary education; they extend their knowledge of learning and teaching, of the breadth and scope of the curriculum and the professional skills associated with high quality teaching. These areas of understanding and skill are then applied to classroom practice during two school experience placements. Full-time study is arranged to be consistent with the primary school year and starts with a pre-programme 15 days in school/s arranged by the student. Students are provided with a handbook to guide these pre-programme observations and activities. The part-time route involves a substantial amount of blended/e-learning, for which access to a home computer and the Internet is essential. Students arrange an additional 22 self-directed days in school during their programme. Please note, although part-time students undertake the taught elements on a part-time basis, school placements are usually undertaken on a full-time basis. Teaching placements are predominantly in Hampshire primary schools, but this geographical area often extends to Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire and Surrey. Students also have the opportunity to take one of their placements in East London or the Isle of Wight. Students with suitable pre-programme experience may take one placement in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting. All students are allocated a personal tutor to support them in their progress through the programme. Progress is tracked both academically and in terms of the Teachers' Standards (Department for Education 2012), which are... [-]

The MArch course is an experimentally minded design studio. The year's study is divided into three broad areas. In the first you will collect a storehouse or catalogue of information, both conceptual and material, in a variety of media and techniques. This provides the ingredients to speculate on and question, in the second part of the year, the implications and possibilities of architectural responses to a programme or brief which you have developed on a particular given site. In the final part of the year you will develop, propose and present individually a design project of conceptual clarity realised in considerable depth and detail. There is an emphasis not only on the materials and techniques of construction but also elements such as air, heat, water, sound, smell and lights as materials too. This will involve visits to factories and workshops where materials are manipulated in a variety of unusual ways.... [-]
