Those who decide to study service design often learn about logistics, psychology, organizational principles, and design theory. The eventual goal is to create services that satisfy consumers and improve the organization's efficiency.

Strategic Design is a design activity that concerns the Product Service System, i.e. the integrated body of products, services and communication strategies that either an actor or a network of actors (companies, institutions, non-profit organizations, etc.) generate and develop to create value. It is often claimed that technological innovation, cultural and economic globalization, and the transition to environmental sustainability generate problems and opportunities. It is also repeatedly stated that the possibility to avoid the former and to exploit the latter requires the development of three core skills: visioning, sensing innovation, creating solutions embedded in new business models. It calls for the ability to design products and services whose success today anticipates what will be or may have to be, the norm of tomorrow. The social demand for a new generation of products and services, coherent with current socio-cultural transformations, and their sustainable development becomes an opportunity for companies able to operate in the context of this new design mindset. The Specializing Master in Service Design was specially created in response to the growing demand for professionals specifically able to handle the complexity of designing a service. The Master in Service Design is an international training programme – taught entirely in English – focused on a user-centred approach and the development of service ideas from contextual research to prototyping.

Public spaces are interior and exterior spaces, as well as permanent and impermanent spaces, for movement and passage; encounter and exchange; as well as entertainment and leisure. These spaces go beyond the physical and into the realms of the virtual, social, cultural, and emotional. In India, where tradition and modernity coexist in layered complexity, these spaces include streets and pavements; parks, maidans, and bagaans; railway stations and metro stations; shopping malls and bazaars; exhibitions, museums and gallery spaces. Indian cities face the constant struggle to design, maintain and improve the inhabitation of public spaces and their qualities, not just in urban areas but also in peri-urban areas.
