Course Description : The course taken at Faculty of Science and Technology comprised of class-lecture activity and laboratory practice. In order to obtain a master degree, student must complete 40-42 credits within 1.5 - 2 years of master study. Currently, Master program conducts studies on four areas such as Environmental Biology, Animal Physiology, Microbiology, and Plant Tissue Culture
Outcome : This course produces graduates who have great readiness in playing active role either in government or non government organization. For instance, Master Biology’s graduates are spread all across Indonesia, research centre on biology and natural resources conservation agency, and research center of sugar. Many graduates from the MSi Biology study programme enter careers in fundamental and applied research or go on to become PhD. students. Some find a position as an academic, researcher, communication officer, or policymaker.
Environmental Biology: This specialisation focuses mainly on subjects as enviromental, predict the ecological impacts of pollutants and monitoring, implementing ecological sampling mainly for water and land, utilizing the results of the analysis of growth, population interactions, food chains, food webs and ecological pyramid to plan conservation of natural resources in an integrated manner. This field is supported by the subjects, namely applied ecology, population biology, coastal and marine ecology, environmental management, eco-toxicology, environmental sampling techniques and experimental ecology.
Animal Physiology: In this specialisation, you obtain knowledge about animal physiology. You learn to analyze the relationship between nature, action, and the role of hormones in the context of physiology, ecology and evolution of organisms, distinguish between various mechanisms and forms of animal adaptation to habitat, to analyze the immunological principles in the manufacture of a contraceptive vaccine, and to analyze cells and cell components to the molecular level. This field is supported by the subjects, namely comparative endocrinology, immunohistochemistry techniques, adaptive physiology, reproductive immunology, cell and tissue cultures of animal, molecular analysis techniques, and animal reproduction technologies.
Microbiology: This specialisation focuses mainly on subjects as enviromental microbiology. You learn to evaluation and security control materials and industrial products as well as monitoring the quality of the environment, evaluate the microbial species diversity and the role of microbes in the environment, analyzing microbial products and the role of microbes in industrial fermentation. This field is supported by the subjects, namely microbial analysis techniques, food microbiology, bioconversion, medical microbiology, microbial ecology, bioremediation, and industrial microbiology.
Plant Tissue Culture: This specialisation focuses mainly on subjects as plant tissue culture. You learn to analyze the different techniques of plant tissue culture and development, to analyze patterns of growth and development of plants, to compare the biosynthesis and metabolism of phytohormones, to analyze the needs nutrients to plants, symptoms of deficiency of nutrients in plants to overcome the problems in the field of biology plant. This field is supported by the subjects, namely plant tissue culture, plant morphogenesis, physiology grew substances, nutrient physiology, biochemistry of plants, and plant biotechnology.
