Best Master Programs in Marketing and Communication in the USA. Encompassing courses in design thinking and business management, the Master of Professional Studies in Design Management (M.P.S.) degree at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) prepares design managers to lead creative teams in a variety of design-based industries. The outstanding faculty – both resident and visiting – help develop disruptive thinking using design as the fulcrum for increasing customer delight. Design represents a valuable strategic asset – the tools and the processes to problem-solve and innovate. The management of that asset, the ability to understand, optimize, and steer that energy is becoming vital to an organization’s internal and external success. Category-leading companies like Apple, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Bose, and Schick know this to be a marketable truth. The MPS in Design Management program at SASD is a two-year intensive program for design professionals of all disciplines. Courses are specifically tailored to real-world issues facing designers and are taught by leading design management professionals. The team-based assignments focus on practical and actionable problem solving, preparing students to immediately use the information and skills they learn. Design Managers who graduate from SASD leave with the core skills and tools to apply design thinking to solve the most pressing business issues of our time: sustainability, social responsibility, and profitability. About the program Design Management uses right brain processes to solve left brain problems. This is a screen grab of the top results of an online search for “design management.” There are more report-like documents than pretty designs, suggesting the outcome of a Design Management project is a report rather than an object. Design Management incorporates design thinking, service design, and sustainability. It produces and manages information, services, and experiences. DM advocates and promotes design as a key differentiator and driver of organizational success. Rethink expertise. It’s very easy to think that you are the expert on your own product. But that’s a myth: the true experts are your customers. Jamie Wong (Vayable) Design Management incorporates design thinking, service design, and sustainability. It produces and manages information, services, and experiences. DM advocates and promotes design as a key differentiator and driver of organizational success. DM links design, innovation, technology, management, and customers to provide a competitive advantage across the “triple bottom line”: social/cultural, environmental, and economic. Who are design managers? Design managers lead design firms and design teams in creative industries. Design managers are brand managers, creative directors, design directors, heads of design, design strategists, design researchers, and managers and executives responsible for making decisions on how design is used throughout an organization. Design department managers, brand managers, creative directors, design directors, heads of design, design strategists, design researchers, and managers and executives responsible for making decisions on how design is used in an organization. The importance of accurately perceiving and assessing quality Design managers work with and lead others to develop superior business solutions. To be an effective leader, it is necessary to have two things: a refined and elevated sense of excellence, and a refined and elevated sense of mediocrity (average, unremarkable). The best way to learn relative quality is to compare your work to others’ in your immediate environment, that is, comparing it to your classmates’ work. Our students learn about assessment, responsibility, and comparative, relative quality. By these means, you will be most able to improve the quality of your own thinking. [-]

The Master in Communication program aims to cast light on an rapidly-changing world where the ubiquity of international exchange and the advent of digital media have reshuffled the cards. [+]

Master in Communications The Master in Communications is being integrated into the Sciences Po School of Management and Innovation launched in October 2016. Current students will continue studying in their original Master's programme. Their programme may undergo a few alterations related to the School's organisation for the 2017/2018 academic year. The Master in Communication program aims to cast light on an rapidly-changing world where the ubiquity of international exchange and the advent of digital media have reshuffled the cards. Through an approach that integrates both academic as well as professional training, students receive an education that is both current and grounded in reality. APPRENTICESHIP: DETAILS Schedule For the first four months, from September to December, students are considered part- time employees at the company (2.5 days of work); they then work full-time for the eight remaining months. Students are, however, required to attend five full days of mandatory seminars at Sciences Po in the second semester. Supervision: Apprenticeship Supervisor: A professional from within the company who is responsible for welcoming the apprentice, helping him/her integrate into the company and supervising his/her work. Tutor: A second professional (from another organization) who is also a teacher at the School of Communication. The tutor advises and guides the apprentice in the early stages of his/her professional life. Academic staff: Ensure the proper continuation of the student’s academic engagements and monitor his/her compliance with (the School's) academic requirements. Dissertation In addition to the work that they do at the organization of their choice, students are also required to write a 20 to 30-page dissertation. THE SCHOOL EXPECTS THIS WORK TO BE BASED ON A THEORETICAL TOPIC RELATING TO THE PLACEMENT RATHER THAN AN INTERNSHIP REPORT. THE SUBJECT OF THE DISSERTATION IS DETERMINED IN CONSULTATION WITH THE APPRENTICESHIP SUPERVISOR AND THE TUTOR. At the end of the apprenticeship in September, the dissertation has to be defended in the presence of the two professional supervisors and a member of the School’s academic staff.
