Society is constantly changing its face. So the young professional must be able to think the logic of his project in the face of a global context, analyze the issues, redefine specifications, be creative upstream of the formal translation, on the very reflection of the subject. To prepare for the third year, students present their work to juries composed of outside professionals and teachers of the school. The subjects studied, the research conducted by the students are suggested or proposed based on real data. They are dual-purpose exercises, both "rehearsals" or simulations of a concrete situation and didactic materials. Conferences given by prominent personalities in their field are an opportunity to grasp various visions of the current world, to hear the point of view on a job, to think in groups and then to write individually. -

Both a humanist and a universalist, the Interior Architect-Object Designer works on various scales, from the smallest object to the whole city. As a craftsman and a general contractor, he or she restores as much as he or she designs; the Interior Architect-Object Designer builds the perceptible materiality of the environment he or she can design, on demand. -

MA in Interior Design The RCA Architecture School is expanding parallel disciplines to address the realm of ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ design, from the design of a window to the design of a city. The global ecological need to increase urban density, reduce waste and carbon emissions means that the re-use and adaptation of existing buildings will be a growth area in the international construction industry. The new MA in Interior Design is offered not as an interior decoration course, but as an opportunity for graduates to extend their thinking on ‘altering architecture’, i.e. that interior design is the site of spatial and physical intervention within existing buildings. The two-year programme will be run in parallel with the Architecture programme, with separate and related areas of production. The course includes lectures, seminars, group work and individual thesis work. This is carried out in the unique RCA studio context of inter-disciplinary, workshop-oriented, speculative study. Students will be able to focus on specific inside themes such as future changes of use, office or exhibition design, but also encouraged to investigate and research areas relevant to the experience of buildings, e.g. new materials, lighting, fixtures and fittings, component design and colour theory. The course will be delivered by practising designers, architects and theorists, international leaders in their fields. Opportunities for industry connected live projects and research will be developed. The MA course culminates in the RCA degree show, where completing students exhibit their work to the art and design world. From the book, Altering Architecture by Fred Scott Applications Applications for 2012/13 entry will be accepted until Monday 30 April 2012. Applicants should possess an excellent degree and an outstanding portfolio, preferably (but not exclusively) in interior design and have an inclination and ability for making at all scales. We would also welcome applicants from graduates or experienced designers of related disciplines such as (but not restricted to) product, furniture or transport design. These applicants may seek to change direction, enhance their skills or conduct specific research into the realm of 'inside'. -
