The postgraduate degree programme is designed to enable students to engage in research in business administration both within and outside of universities. Its launch in the winter semester 1999/2000 aims to revalue the after-diploma degrees and enhance their competitiveness in the international market. At the same time, our School strengthens its own research by means of the MBR. It is the research-based phase of studies which falls by the wayside in German universities.

The standard length of study is four semesters. The vital innovative element of the research course is the so-called integration course in which a class of about 24 students, for the duration of one year and supervised by two or more professors, intensively resolve significant matters of research. Furthermore, the MBR includes a project course which serves for the preparation of the doctoral thesis and an extension course within the scope of which the student acquires expertise in and attends classes on methodology, scientific theory, and specialised issues upon agreement with his mentor.... Consumer Affairs is a worldwide rising field of research and higher education. It analyzes consumers in their economic, social and ecological environment. The study “The Need for Postgraduate Education in Consumer Affairs in the European Union” underlines the demand from corporate and governmental sectors as well as consumer organisations for higher education graduates in this field. Furthermore, it is shown a clear gap between demand and provision of high education graduates in Consumer Affairs.

Based on these results the European Commission supports the development of Master’s Programmes in the EU. Following the idea to improve the supply of highly educated and qualified employees in the field of Consumer Affairs, the Aarhus University (Denmark), Technical University Munich (Germany), Wageningen University (Netherlands) and Warsaw University of Life Science (Poland) have established a consortium with the aim of developing the European Master’s Programme in Consumer Affairs (EURECA) which is funded by the European Commission, Directorate General for Health and Consumers. The programme is coordinated by the Department of Marketing and Consumer Research at the Technische Universität München (Germany) and will start in September/ October 2009.
