A Postgraduate Diploma Programmes in Applied Entomology and Pest management, Ecology and Environmental Biology, Hydrobiology and Fisheries The objective of the Post-graduate Diploma is to enable students develop the capacity in tackling the programs caused by agricultural diseases, and pests such as insects mites and nematodes. The programme will also aim at acquainting the students with general principles, techniques and other methods applicable in the management and combating of those agricultural and medically important pests and parasites and diseases. Admission Requirements All candidates must have five credits passes including English, mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at O'level. The Postgraduate Diploma programme admission is open to B.Sc (3rd) Class and HND (upper credit minimum) graduate or its equivalent in Biology, Botany, Zoology, Entomology ,Ecology, Applied Biology, Microbiology and other related fields such as Crop protection, Agricultural Extension and Medical Laboratory Technology. All applicants must satisfy the admission requirements of the school of Graduate Studies. Mandatory duration of programme A uniform duration for the programme for all Universities, making allowance for minor individual university variation shall be adopted as follows: 1.Postgraduate diploma programme Full-time: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters. Academic Regulation Academic session An academic session consists of two semesters. Each semester normally will comprise of 15 weeks of teaching and two weeks of examinations. Modular System All Physics Postgraduate programmes shall be run on a modular system, i.e. the Course Unit system. All courses should therefore be subdivided into more or less self sufficient and logically consistent packages that are taught within a semester and examined at the end of that particular semester. Unit weights should be attached to each course. Definition of Units or Credits Units are loads attached to a course. One unit load is equivalent to one hour per week semester of 15 weeks of lecture or two hours of tutorials or three hours per week of term paper work or laboratory practical per semester of 15 weeks. Programme overview

The programme covers nearly all aspects of geology, from minerals and rocks to glacial geology, sediments, climatic changes and the evolution of life. It aims to provide students with a wide range of geological knowledge, exposure to areas at the cutting edge of research, and a thorough understanding of the practical applications of geology. There are two main branches, Bedrock Geology and Quaternary Geology. Four courses in either branch are normally studied during the first year. A master´s degree project (45 ECTS credits), combined with an elective course, is compulsory in the second year.

One of many attractions of the Department of Geology is the vast array of in-house research equipment that complements teaching. All students undertake their lectures and practical sessions in well-equipped lecture halls and teaching laboratories within the department building. Fieldwork is an essential part of the practical work and there are excursions of between one day and one week. These are held at a variety of locations and are a major feature of the programme. In the final year students generally undertake projects in many of the research laboratories. Computing and workstation facilities underpin many aspects of our teaching and research.
