The first-level discipline of Geology complies of five second-level disciplines of Mineralogy-Petrology-Gitology, Geochemistry, Structural Geology, Palaeontology & Stratigraphy and Quaternary Geology. The researches of our Geological disciplines mainly characterized in that of the structure and property of a basin, the depositional systems and sedimentary effects, the physical, chemical or biological effects which occurred inside the sedimentary basin, and how these geological effects control the deposition and formation of fossil fuels. During 1950s, with the help of experts from the Soviet Union, our geological department began to recruit graduate students, and in early 1980s, authorized by the Chinese government, ours became one of the first departments to offer master degrees, and later to establish doctoral programs in Mineralogy, Petrology and Gitology in 1993, in Geochemistry in 2003, in Structural Geology in 2005.
