The founding of the Department of Technology Engineering dates back to the aftermath of the First World War, when Belgium was in great need of technical engineers to rebuild the country. Polyvalent engineers in the field of electro-mechanics were the first to obtain their degree in 1926.
Soon afterwards civil construction and chemistry were added to the curriculum, and finally, after the Second World War, electronics. So far over 7000 engineers have graduated from the Department.
1976 saw the creation of 'Labo De Nayer', an independent research laboratory accredited by the government that runs tests for the industry and the government.
