Interconnection of geographic disciplines with economic sciences has become a characteristic feature of the study program focused on local and regional development since the economic aspects of making use of geographical landscape are the alpha and omega of sustainable development. The result of many years of work and continuous innovation is the study offered in the Geography and Regional Development study branch, in which the disciplines of human geography are interlinked with economic courses also focused on management and marketing.

The research specialized in economic geography and regional development is conceived as a multilateral approach to the studied topic. Its essential core is combined from the selected branches of human geography – especially the public administration, city marketing, geography of tourism, trans-boundary cooperation, geography of retailing, geography of transportation, social geography, agenda of the European Union, urban and rural geography, GIS and regional studies of continents (Africa, Asia, Latin and Northern America, Europe) with focus on socio-economic aspects.... International Economic and Political Studies (IEPS) is a two-year English-language Master's degree programme, which seeks to investigate contemporary political, economic and social issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. Although the predominant emphasis in IEPS is on approaches from economics and political science, students will also be expected to explore their historical, legal and sociological aspects.

The IEPS programme offers a unique study both in its contents and methods. It is based neither on an overview of facts about the social organisation nor on crunching of abstract mathematical models – it offers the students the ways of thinking and understanding social, economic and political phenomena in globalised societies. Students deal with the nature of economic objectives of agents, social organisation, institutions of power, the emergence of conflicts and aims at cooperation. They are expected to master the principles of modern non-conventional economic thinking and be able to apply it in political decision-making at the level of supra-national institutions, states, regional governments, corporations, firms, political parties and groups of citizens....
