TEMA+ European Territories: Heritage and Development is a two-year (120 ECTS), bilingual (English and French) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree program (EMJMD), involving five universities from the EU and Canada. The TEMA+ Consortium is coordinated from ELTE and formed by the École des Hautes en Sciences Sociales in Paris (EHESS), the University of Catania (UNICT), the Charles University, Prague (CUNI), and the Laval University from Canada (UL) in cooperation with the European Heritage Label (EHL) and different UNESCO offices.

The goal of this program is to provide a better understanding of the growing presence and importance of cultural heritage in a European context by applying a multinational, interdisciplinary approach. Over the past decade, academics have started recognizing the importance and impact of European cultural heritage on identity and contemporary culture. For this reason, the consortium has commonly decided to use its expertise to develop a new interdisciplinary program and curriculum and to create the first European joint master program on European Heritage Studies that connects the academic fields of Social Sciences and Humanities.... Programme description

Transatlantic Studies is a two-year full-time interdisciplinary program, which comparatively examines ever-changing relationships between culture and politics in the international context. Upon completion of the studies, students earn a degree in Cultural Studies with a major in Transatlantic Studies. The international atmosphere of the program gives students an opportunity to learn not just from scholarly materials, but also from their fellow students' diverse experiences of and perspectives on our ever-changing and increasingly connected world. The program recognizes and supports benefits of close, mentoring relationship between faculty and students aimed at the development of a variety of intellectual and professional skills. Master's Programs in Cultural Studies.

The program offers an outstanding opportunity to acquire analytical tools with which to approach contemporary global and local social processes and trends. These include issues such as migration with its corollaries of increasing cross-cultural contact and new diaspora politics, financial crises and advancement of neo-liberal (and other) policies, both internationally and locally, the transformation of political subjectivities in the context of shifting ideas about development, state-building, and nation.

The program provides students with a solid theoretical and methodological basis with which to critically explore a variety of pressing issues in (post)modern society. Through lectures, seminars, and independent reading, students gain knowledge in social, and specifically anthropological, theory. A variety of compulsory and optional courses help students to develop a thoroughly anthropological approach to the themes of self and agency, gender, state and power, borders/migration, consumerism, art/performance. Working with texts is accompanied by ethnographic fieldwork whereby students not only advance their skills of data gathering but also learn to test and creatively develop their theoretical frameworks.... About the Programme

A large part of historical studies is conducted as applied research. Using and interpreting historical data enables historian to construct "usable pasts" as a tool for understanding the present and imagining possible and alternative avenues of future development. Applied history embraces methods and practices dealing with identification, preservation, interpretation, and presentation of historical artefacts, texts, structures, and landscapes. In one part of our training, we focus on material objects in history and their meanings within the framework of heritage and memory studies. The other part of the training will encompass a critical approach to the politics of circulation of historically formed discourses of identity and legitimacy in present-day society. The two-pronged approach to the complex problem of historical legacy and heritage will fill out the gap in professional training in history and provide a platform for creating interactive processes that link the historical object, the historian, and the public....
