A Masters degree gives you the opportunity to either further your understanding of a particular question or take off in a completely different way using skills you have gained from your previous undergraduate degree.
Many who pursue a higher education in engineering then go on to lead careers in civil engineering, which involves the creation and maintenance of civilian structures. This is done both in the public and private sectors.
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
This course aims to introduce the basic mathematical concept and to develop arguments presented in the introductory section in order to provide students with operational tools to be applied both during this course and in other courses where quantitative methods are used, namely in Financial Mathematics or Statistics. At the end of this course, students will have mastered the appropriate tools to better understand both mathematical and quantitative aspects of economic models. [+]
This program aims to cultivate future graduate students and help them grasp the fundamental theory of mathematics and mechanics, get an in-depth and systematic understanding of the knowledge and meet the research frontiers in the three majors - civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering. Studying this Masters, you will cover a wide range of topics not traditionally covered in undergraduate degrees; the programme includes specialist modules in structural dynamics, bridge engineering, structural design and professional engineering. You will also learn how to work in a multidisciplinary setting through combined modules with Architecture students. Structural engineering is a continually evolving profession, and through the third Semester Research Project you will learn how to apply this specialist knowledge to develop new concepts and ideas under the supervision of research active academic staff. This programme will distinguish you as having specialist knowledge in the area of Structural Engineering and provide you with a competitive edge over your peers in the job market.... [-]
The program aims to train a Student in practical art and philosophy of structural design. It also gives the insight into investigation, assessment and strengthening of the damaged structures. The program also engages the students into the design of ongoing important industrial structures such as chimneys, silos, water tanks, bridges and ports. [+]
The University of Maryland offers a Master of Engineering and Graduate Certificate in Engineering in Fire Protection Engineering via both on-campus and distance programs. While some students take courses via both modes, most students select to take courses either on campus or via the distance option. This page addresses the courses and requirements for students enrolled in the on-campus classes. [+]

Master of Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering
The Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering (NHRE) master’s degree programme has a strong international orientation. It trains students to apply themselves to demanding engineering tasks with regard to specific external influences, such as earthquakes. We teach students how to use modern equipment to assess the dangers and damage potential of natural phenomena, we show them how to create models and simulations, and we prepare them for conducting projects and- risk analyses of their own.In this way, the programme provides students with key qualifications for engineering positions which require innovative, enterprising solutions for dealing with a wide variety of natural dangers, like earthquakes, floods and storms. The occurrence of an increasing number of natural hazards all over the world and their various effects on individuals, societies and modern economies is one of the major challenges for future decades. The master course in "Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering" faces this challenge by providing indispensable tools for taking into account those phenomena in the different design processes in civil engineering. Thereby, the master course aims at combining practical structural engineering with state-of-the-art concepts regarding computational mechanics, dynamics and probability theory/stochastic analysis. Consequently, the master course provides key qualifications for innovative work in the field of earthquake, flood and wind engineering and offers an international setting in which students will achieve both technical success and personal advancement.Main areas covered by the master course in "Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural... To grant the Master degree in Civil Engineering – Building Construction, allowing holders of an undergraduate degree in a similar field to continue their studies, and improve their knowledge on civil construction, structures, hydraulics and environment, road design, planning, and transportation. In this degree, students will develop original applications in a specific field, by doing a project, a dissertation or an internship. When completing the Master, students should be able to: 1) Apply the learnt knowledge, understand and solve problems in new and unfamiliar situations, in a broad and multidisciplinary context; 2) Develop solutions, and make decisions in real situations, with limited or incomplete information; 3) Communicate their conclusions and fundaments to experts and non-experts, clearly and without ambiguities; 4) Autonomously commit to lifelong learning....
