The Computer Science, Management and Engineering course programme responds to two essential requirements of our time: on the one hand, the ever-growing need to computerise businesses, and on the other hand the need to manage activities more and more efficiently. Engineers have natural skills placing them at the forefront of computer science. They also have the ability to make a rational and methodical contribution to business management.
Profile of the programme
The courses focus on
business management: human resources and communication, marketing, financial analysis and economic and financial calculations, managing innovation, team building, etc.
management mathematics and operational research: mathematical programming, stochastic models of operational research, decision-making and management support, computer-aided manufacturing, etc.
computer science: programming methodology and languages, databases, software engineering, artificial intelligence, system security and administration, etc.
Personal assignments play a central part in the students’ training. They allow them to implement the scientific concepts taught in lectures and to acquire those skills gained mainly by experience, such as groupwork, leadership, time and deliverables management, conflict management, autonomy, … Therefore half of the programme is dedicated to guided personal projects linked to research fields in the Computer Engineering and Management specialism (decision-making, optimization, artificial vision, grid computing, innovation management, creativity).
Students may complete part of their Master’s course (6 months) in other universities, such as Barcelona, Poznan, Dublin, … within the framework of the Erasmus exchange programme or a full year in a university of the TIME network (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) such as SupElec, SupAero, ….

By the end of this specific course programme, the students will be able to:
model and solve common optimization problems, and interpret the results; master and implement decision-aid methods;
specify the needs for common computing applications, analyze, conceive and implement software meeting those needs;
demonstrate a sense of innovation and creativity, develop analytical and autonomous thinking and put forward arguments in a debate on macroeconomics
Information technology, management mathematics and business management are now seen to be interconnected. A few examples will make this clear. Implementing an IT system has an effect on "communication" within the company, and thus also affects human resources management. Market research is unimaginable without the support of a statistical method for analysing the data. The management of stocks not only involves software, but also mathematical algorithms as well as assets management. Masters in Computer Engineering and Management combine those three complementary skills - IT, management mathematics and business management.
Skills in IT and management are indispensable in all activity sectors. They open the doors to employment in all fields and ensure rapid progression to managerial positions in companies, or to freelance work, joining a small business or founding new companies.
The most common roles fall into the following six categories:
IT (consultancy – Management);
organisation and planning (all enterprises and organisations);
business management (banking – insurance);
engineering (electrical and electronic construction, iron and steel metallurgy, chemicals);
research and development (universities and research centres);
various sectors (public sector, international organisations, other industries).
Access to further studies
The Master of Science in Computer Science, Management and Engineering can lead to postgraduate studies in order to specialize, do further training or research:
either by completing another Engineering Master’s degree, at the University of Mons or any other European university, e.g. in Quality Control and Management, Industrial Risks and Operational Safety, Transportation Management, Master in Business Administration, etc.
or by conducting a PhD thesis in engineering sciences possibly with the support of research clusters of the Faculty and the University of Mons.

Master in Computer Engineering and Management in part-time
The Faculty of Engineering of Mons offers the Master's degree in Computer Engineering and Management on a part-time basis. This training, given in Charleroi, is accessible to Engineers, Engineering technology graduates, Business Engineers, Agronomy Engineers or Sciences graduates. It is intended for adults inserted in the professional life, who already graduated from higher education and who wish to get the essential competencies in Computer sciences and Management in all sectors.
The Faculty of Engineering of Mons is unique in Belgium, as it awards a degree in engineering which cumulates the triple capacity of computerization-organization and management.
Education is designed for engineers in activity having at least three years of track records. The programmes and the timetables are arranged and adapted in order to reconcile education, professional life and personal life.
