MArch in Architecture
The MArch course is an experimentally minded design studio. The year's study is divided into three broad areas. In the first you will collect a storehouse or catalogue of information, both conceptual and material, in a variety of media and techniques. This provides the ingredients to speculate on and question, in the second part of the year, the implications and possibilities of architectural responses to a programme or brief which you have developed on a particular given site. In the final part of the year you will develop, propose and present individually a design project of conceptual clarity realised in considerable depth and detail. There is an emphasis not only on the materials and techniques of construction but also elements such as air, heat, water, sound, smell and lights as materials too. This will involve visits to factories and workshops where materials are manipulated in a variety of unusual ways.... [-]

Master in Scriptwriting
The MA in Scriptwriting is a professional training course for working writers. Most scriptwriters work across several media, and the course reflects this. All our tutors are working writers. We aim to turn out writers who understand the structure and craft of drama, have a finished script they can use as a calling card, know the industry in all its variety, and can pitch and sell their work. The MA is taught in seventeen weekends of intensive workshops. It is not, however, 'low residency'. There are as many hours of teaching as on Bath Spa University's established MA in Creative Writing. The course is taught at our beautiful Corsham Court campus where we are developing performance, capture and editing facilities. We also work closely with the School of Music and Performing Arts, and their students will have the opportunity to help act in and produce our work.Although this is an intellectually challenging postgraduate course, there is no 'academic' side detached from the working side. Everything theoretical is geared to help the students as writers.... [-]

Is the Master of Achitecture for you?
The problem based learning and inclusive approach to studio teaching is one of the strengths of the program at Newcastle. The projects in the first year of the program focus on large-scale urban design, mixed-use and the detailed design of high-rise buildings. These design projects emphasise creative, social, cultural and ecological issues relating to urbanism and the built environment. The final year of the program provides you with the opportunity to develop their own elective project over the course of the year, applying in-depth research and resolution to a singular design problem. Within a creative and innovative learning environment the final exhibited project explores the complexities of making buildings for the future of the built environment. The comprehensive way that each stage of the architectural design process is articulated, critiqued and developed provides you with a portfolio of work that reflects the making of buildings in the real world. Projects undertaken by students often have real world clients and reflect the challenging environment that architects find themselves. The program is supported by a number of visiting adjunct professors and leading architects including Ric LePlastrier, Peter Stutchbury and Peter Davidson.... [-]
