THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH This Master program in Contemporary Art Conservation is opened to graduates who want to acquire theoretical and practical specific preparation in the field of contemporary art conservation, interested to operate in a dynamic and evolving sector. Previous studies in fine arts academies and schools of restoration could be considered as an asset, but not a prerequisite to access the course. Methodology The course is divided into two modules, characterized by a specific course of study, strictly related to the peculiarity of the venue in which it takes place: Venice and Como. In the I° Module, the courses offered by IED Venice provide students with an original preparation in the field of arts and conservation, interchanging lessons in class with visits and meetings, so to understand the concrete application of theoretical concept analyzed in class. A focus is dedicate on the criticality related to the movement and the management of the contemporary artwork, to the legal aspect and the valorization of cultural heritage. In the II° Module, the possibility to operate in the technical laboratory of Accademia Aldo Galli-IED Como, will offer a concrete preparation in the field of restoration, through workshop and practical experience able to prepare students to understand the artworks peculiarities and how to operate on them. Target This study path is designed for post-graduate students coming from all over the world who want to specialize professionally in the curatorial sector, including museums, galleries, fairs or for auction houses. Previous study in the field of Arts and Management are desirable, but not essential. Methodology and Structure The curriculum of the course consists of surveys of modern and international contemporary art, as well as close consideration of visual arts institutions and practices, training in exhibition organization and public programs in museums and not-for-profit galleries, commissioning, writing, publishing and commercial gallery activity. The teaching combines lecture-based courses, self-initiated research, seminars, site visits, and collaborative work. It also involves the realization of a project in partnership with a national pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The duration of the Masters program is divided as follows: seven months of lectures, lab activities, museum and gallery visits, integrated with individual study, project development and three months dedicated to the elaboration of a final Thesis Project that can be undertaken alone or in a group. The Masters program has a very pragmatic approach, providing students with methodology and a step-by-step path that will lead to the realization of an exhibition project.
