Workshops Guided by industry professionals and faculty project leaders, you will work in cooperation with leading companies on projects from concept to design, from micro to macro. You will also analyze your projects from an economic, marketing, social, and anthropological point of view. Some possible workshop challenges include the following: Develop a strategic vision for solving a specific urban issue, moving from a specific intervention to applications within a wider framework. Investigate the relationships between architecture and urban planning and related fields of study, such as product design, interaction design, and communication design. Experiment with cross-disciplinary languages, techniques, and modalities. Design parts of open spaces that are part of a natural or extra-urban context or that are placed in urban gaps. Examples of such production areas include industrial product design, interior architecture, communication, fashion, entertainment and urban planning. Particular attention will be paid to analyzing and summarizing utilization, control, ideation, organization and planning through the use of color. Consequently, color is not treated as a simple attribute of objects or surfaces, but as a means of expression and design underlying perception and interaction with reality. The Specializing Master consists of two phases. University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship Scheme 2017-2018 Connected with the renewal of university strategy, the increased importance of internationalization and the introduction of tuition fees for non-EU/EEA citizens, the University of Oulu has assigned a significant amount of money for tuition scholarships for 2017 entry. The scholarships will be granted in the form of a tuition fee waiver. The tuition fee waiver awarded covers 100 % of the full tuition fee. The MArch Architecture programme is for graduates of architecture with ARB/RIBA Part 1 who wish to gain exemption from ARB/RIBA Part 2. Our aim is to prepare students for the complexities of contemporary architectural practice by providing a rich mix of rigorous academic and professional teaching. All students choose a design unit within which to undertake their project work, each unit has a different specialism across the themes of; digital surrealism, film and animation, bio-technology, art practice and contemporary culture. The units are led by a highly experienced team of internationally recognised design tutors. The first year of the programme starts by developing advanced skills in urban design and digital representation that can be applied to a major building project in conjunction with a professionally mentored 'Design Realisation' technical report. Traditional disciplinary boundaries have been overwhelmed by the need for greater interaction, ability to work in groups and the transfer of technology. Even the shop under your house is not immune to the online buying phenomenon. Each industry sector has developed a mix of technologies and processes that the designer must be able to know how to use and to which the project has to adapt to. The very concept of ownership and selling is being questioned in favor of other forms of access to goods and services. The ‘experience’ of a product remains fundamental, even when a sale is not ‘on the spot’, it has become even more important to transmit the intangible values, narrative and symbology associated with the goods. Creativity, when also applied to a complex issue like commercial spaces can sometimes be rendered in a software program to track a shipment as in an interface to manage to an online business application or an interactive information system, but in any case it must aim to take advantage of new knowledge/systems to improve the effectiveness of the process. The one-year Master’s programme in Architectural Lighting Design is based on a new approach to light and light planning – a combination of visual, physical and biological-based experience and knowledge applied to design, technology and health. Programme outline The programme provides in-depth understanding of the field of Architectural Lighting Design through scientific-based knowledge and practical experience in the area of artificial light and daylight. The aim of the course is to teach the ability to apply advanced knowledge in this area, in both practical and academic situations. Four courses are given during the one-year programme. Light and Humans The aim of the module is to learn about the relationship between light and humans, which is mediated by the physical space. The world cities and urban sprawl of both the global North and the global South face massive public policy and governance challenges. The scale and speed of urbanization raise a plethora of issues, which are all covered in the programme. These include: economic development, poverty and slums, housing, health, technological and social innovation, the management of risk, infrastructure, water and waste disposal, changing labour markets, sustainable development, democratic participation. Governing populations divided and organized by class, income, religion, ethnic origin, mobility and/or gender has become even more difficult in a globalizing world where opportunities for mobility, participation in overlapping networks, interdependence and the scale of large urban regions make classic territorial conceptions of government and public policies partly obsolete. Students receive rigorous methodological training, experience from international professionals and exposure to high level academic content. The programme is taught entirely in English with a great emphasis on issues of comparative study. No ready made recipes are provided, and no simple fairy stories on the so called "best practices of good governance": the programme trains the students with a strong critical approach and management skills so as to be competent for project accounting and decision making to implement urban policy in critical environments.
