The Master of Design (Transitional Environments Design) aims to develop a high level of intellectual and practical mastery of the analysis and design of diverse rural and urban environments in the region, with broader implications for global contexts.

The programme aims to: enhance existing construction-related professionals with the knowledge of urban design and regional planning; produce experts with comprehensive knowledge of urban design and regional planning; provide multi-disciplinary approach for architecture, civil engineering, urban design, urban planning, building services and construction professionals; etc.

Oman’s First Master Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning. The Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning (MSc AUP) at GUtech is the first program in the whole region to offer both Architecture and Urban Planning as specializations. The MSc program capitalizes on the expertise accumulated by the faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at RWTH Aachen University and draws form the know-how of GUtech faculty behind the internationally accredited the BSc Urban Planning and Architectural Design program. The program is designed to train fresh graduates and professionals to address the challenges of a rapidly urbanized world by seeking innovative approaches in the built environment.

The Master of Architecture is a focused, professional degree and is required to become a practising architect. It is the second of two degrees, undertaken after the successful completion of the Bachelor of Design in Architecture (C10004) or equivalent.

The Master of Planning provides a new career path for design, planning and property professionals, equipping graduates with a broad understanding of planning issues alongside the negotiation skills and creative thinking required to resolve them.

This unique and innovative master's degree is the first of its kind in the region and explores what cities are, and what they can be. It goes beyond the concept of a smart city to also cover important technological, social, and sustainability issues to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to the cities of today and tomorrow. The speciality of Architecture was established at the faculty of Fine Arts. The faculty of Engineering was established in the 2005-2006 academic year and the chair of Architecture have been included in its composition.

The Program aims at exploring and institutionalizing the concepts of future foresight and planning in organizations. A rich program content that includes a variety of tools and knowledge of the future will enable graduates of public sector and business leaders and other professionals to improve their strategic thinking and planning and improve the way they make future-related decisions and deal with ensuing change. Students will also be able to develop professional expertise in terms of managing and leading future foresight and strategic planning projects.

The course is studied over one academic year of 12 months. 60 credits of modules are studied in the autumn, and 60 credits of modules are studied in the spring semester. A research project is undertaken in the summer semester, also worth 60 credits.
